im after getting another hard drive around the 500gb. it will be used along side my SSD drive so my SSD will have OS and some programs/games i use alot and the hard drive will be used programs/games i dont use that much.

i just want something thats going to perform ok and not cost the earth. been using a 160gb hard drive for os and software etc so that could now be used for photo storage etc.

For a storage drive, the WD 500GB Blue is a very decent one. The Samsung drives seem to be very popular around the UK so those are another manufacture to look into as well.

thanks for the info guys

whats the difference between the WD Green, blue and black. is it just to do with the amount power it uses or is there more to it?

Black - Best speeds

Green - Best power saver (lower speeds)

Blue - Best of both

That's how it seems to work, but there may be more behind it

I think a good representation can be shown directly at the WD website.

WD Internal Hard Drives Overview

Here you may compare the 1TB drives in each category. The Green drive is best suited for storage as they have a larger capacity range, run slower, consume less power and are much quieter. The Blue and Black drives are much better suited for OS and programs.
