Hi guys,

I am currently building a new PC, and I am just stuck on the PSU. I want a 80+ Gold. I was originally going to get the Corsair AX850, but then I noticed there were a lot more Golds under it's price, sometimes with even more Watts. The one I mainly have in question is the Silverstone Strider 850W Gold. They are both modular, and have the exact same number of slots, it's just a price tag difference of $45 AUD, which is 29~ Pounds. I'd just like to get a few votes and some comments on whether people think the money is worth it. Bare in mind I am trying to save money here!

I don't have any experience with the Silverstone, but love the Corsair line of power supplies. You wouldn't be disappointed.

I have read about people having bad experiences with Silverstone PSUs but never Corsair, so i'd say corsair.

antec are also good

+ 1

I have a Antec 850w and it has powered 2x GTX470 1x GTX460 a i7 860 at 4200Mhz and 6gig of memory,

DvD drives and the fans and it has been running perfectly fine and still is

Not really seen any good reviews on the where there Silverstone Strider 850W Gold are plenty on the corsair AX850 so I'd go with that.

I'm not saying that not having tons of reviews doesn't mean its a bad power supply but when your spending £1000+ on a rig I'd like to go with the safest option. Had a power supply go pop on me back in the day before I knew better and it took everything else out with it.

The Corsair is better, it's a rebranded Seasonic 850w Gold PSU, and at PCCasegear it's cheaper than it's Seasonic twin. The reason why the Corsair is better than the Silverstone is a more competitive warranty and higher efficiency. Yes they are both Gold but this graph will show the difference between the two.

The difference is the Silverstone is a borderline Gold, while the Corsair is borderline Platinum. Also the Corsair has a 7 year Corsair warranty, which is probably the best warranty you'll get on a PSU.

Corsairs/Seasonic Power Supplies are also tested at a higher ambient temperature. Silverstone doesn't recommend you use their PSUs over 40C ambient and in Australia, it get warmer than that ;)Finally Corsair has better cables with really nice braiding.

EDIT: AX850 is also shorter, 160mm as opposed to 180mm

Come on then Endzy, tell us what your going for.

Well I was honestly going to get the 800W Silent Pro Gold by Cooler Master, but it's only semi-modular, so I was kinda sad as it was 60 cheaper. I HATE MAKING A COMPUTER WITH A BUDGET! I wish I saved money when I was working and didn't spend it all on meat at the butcher
