Where should I start?

FSB, voltage, memory timings and all 8800GT tips is what I'm after. Gigabyte offer 'EasyTune' software but I'd prefer to know what's going on in the BIOS.

I've done some stock benchmark runs on 3dMark with all my required software installed & background processes running including Norton. 3dMark year & results at the default test resolution are:

2003 - 40050 XP pro32 (dx10 mod)

2005 - 17223 XP pro32 (dx10 mod)

2006 - 13454 XP pro32 (dx10 mod) & 12910 Vista Ultimate 64

The Q9450 is at 2.66/1333 (27c) and the 8800GT is pre OC at 700/1715/920. The 4gb OCZ Platinum has been set to 800 on 5-5-5-15 by the BIOS.

I'm still reading up on o/c, so any tips are welcome.

I'm aware the multi is top locked to 8 but can be reduced to 6 for energy saving, not overclocking(?).

Lowering the multi can also help you achieve a much higher FSB which means other component can get more data quicker.. Making the PC quicker overall.

But it puts more stress on the motherboard.

Have you read the OC3D overclocking guide? Can be found here.

Overclocking a Geforce is really easy to overclock.

Grab RivaTuner and use that to get some good clocks from the 8800.

Trail and error really.

Thanks for your suggestion Toxcity.

Well, I've put the FSB up in stages to 425 and the DDR2 to 850. All voltages at stock still. The 8800GT hasn't been tweaked any futher than the factory OC.

Everything seems stable at 3.4GHz and the CPU temp at idles is back at 27c

Under load it reached 44c by the end of 3DMark06. Results so far on air (not eligible for benchmark section?):

I'll see how stable the system is for the rest of today at these settings before going further.

Any suggestions on the next stage?

Have you tried the Orthos Blend stability test? That's what i use. Leave it running for 8 hours or so and if its still not failed after that, i'd say you were stable.

Is your ram stable? Are you at the manufacturers recommended voltages and what not? Could you maybe set the timings to 4-4-4-12 maybe? I'm not sure how much of a performance increase this will yield, i've read about 1-3 frames per second, so i never bother with it.

Benefits of Becoming a Member

Can you simply tell if Runescape is a great game maplestory powerleveling or not without you becoming a member? The answer to that would be, NO!
