I put this in humour so you can all have a laugh at me being a daft cunt.

At least I have a nice new keyring I suppose :D

I'll not starve. Still let out a fair few swear words tho. lol.

I am going to get a 4790k on Monday. Is there a for sale bit on the forum?

You need to have special requirements to post in the FS&W thread, but damn man, thats pretty unlucky ngl ;(.

I'm asking this as a guy who's never de-lidded a CPU before (hence I don't see it in the pics): what went wrong?

looks like the wood split a bit and slid across the cpu tearing traces.
(see to the tight of the keyring loop.)

if i was delidding id use the blade method. But even then you run the risk of gouging it.
I just never liked the thoughts of hitting a block of wood in to my cpu. "although a lot of people say they prefer that method"

As far as I read, the vice method is way better. The razor method is actually more risky also because it's slower, more tedious and not everyone has stable hands

With Haswell you should orient the chip in a way IVRs could not be touched by the moving IHS

One or some more gentle hits with hammer+wood block and it's done. Just get something ( or someone ) to stop the chip from flying away
