When 850W is not enough . . .

ide still rather have the pcp&c though

it had to happen with all the new power sucking hardware on the market

Interesting that.

I like it coz it looks quiet and the rails are split fairly even.

I don't like coz it says it pumps out 1000w but draws 1400w from the mains- if my math is correct that makes it 60% efficient versus 85% for teh PCP&P 850w (which has a max draw of 950w too).

No doubt it will be alightly cheaper but thats only a false economy in teh grand scheme.

I still cant imagine a rig that could need 1000W, unless you were putting TECs on everything.

Maybe with a nice dual core pentium, 6800ultras SLI'd, TECs on all of them. Still think it's overkill (blatantly just done to be the first company to build a 1kW PSU, hence the poor efficiency (which is 71% if my maths is working correctly ;))).

Wonder how much it weighs?

I just took the 1000watts and divided it by wednesday :D

That 850w unit alllows me to overclock my 7800's RAM to 1475 benchable (1460 rock solid stable), given that volt modded guys only get 1500 benchable I can only put it down the the supreme juice the PSU supplies to the cards.

The idea of having the higher wattage units is to ensure stability at the required load (ie 1000w unit working at 650w is better than a 650w unit working at full capacity) - IMHO.

Agreed. Theres less stress on the unit, and it allows plenty of room for fluctuations and the next batch of power-hungry upgrades. :)

my 510 sli is still enough for me ;)

Also would prefer to have the 850 than the 1k enermax.

id also opt for the pcp&c over the enermax even tho ive run 3 enermax psu's over the pastfew years, when it comes to such a high wattage psu loads of peopel have used the 850 whereas it'd be the first batch of the 1000w enermax so i'td probabbly be bad, the v1 coolergiants were loud and inefficent and the v1 noistakers had some problems and hte cables were incrfedibly stiff.

Some people do need that kind of power. Ive been running two Enermax 550W power supplies for the last year on my server / games machine. Its got 10 hard drives and SLI . You can never have to much power and its not gonna hurt to have more power than you need but it could hurt if you don't have enough.

I shall have the kilowatt units (pcp&c) available to pre-order soon. They are being shipped middle/end of October. Price is yet to be set but they are retailing @ $499.99 in the US. Depends how much they cost me.

Cool. I like what they did with putting the 3rd and 4th 12V rails together. They must have found out it's a better solution.

I actually mananged to make my PCP&C 850 make a spontaneus reboot when I connected my 80W pelt for just the one videocard, and I would like to have one on each card....;) But that's a no go with the layout of the 850 SSI.

The cpu/mobo and pci-e power on the 850 SSI is great, however the last 17A 12V rail could've used quite a little more juice IMO. On my rig it is powering 5x WD disks, 2 dvd-rw's, 2 fan controllers with a total of 15 fan connected, 2 cold cathodes and a Swictech water pump. That's just fine, but adding a 80W pelt on top of that results in an instantaneus reboot. Funny thing is I actually used to run the 80W pelt on the PCP&C 510W as well as the OCZ 520W I had before.

The 1kw psu is now available to pre-order guys! Its still on target for end of October according to the press release. Price is £350 which is pretty good considering the 850 is a penny under £300.
