Whats with "Gamers" the the hate for wireless mice?

So I was playing BF3 yesterday having a good old time as I always do. About half way through a match a pilot on our team crashed a helicopter and stated that his mouse died, "implying of course it was wireless." The comment section exploded with hate for wireless mice. So I joined in saying "whats with all the hate? I use a wireless mouse?" My mouse is a G700 one of the most top of the line mice you can get for gaming, and has the ability to be wireless. No one could give me a single coherent answer as to why they are bad. One said "because of your mouse Dying" which is reasonable but hardly enough to hate what is good about wireless mice, considering I get about 9 hours of solid gameplay with my G700. Then others were implying that they are not as accurate or as good. But I beg to differ as I have a 5700 with 1000 reports a second.

I argue the reason I do not use wired mice is because I do not like the tug of the cable, then one person said "Not if you get a good mouse." Which is already total nonsense as even a good wired (wired) mouse still uses a wire which then adds tug. I had a great wired one, a Razer Deathadder, which was known as well as most wired Razer mice as having the best, thinnest, and strongest wire around. And even on that I could still tug. No matter how good a wired mouse is there will ALWAYS be tug.

So can someone offer a coherent argument discrediting wireless mice?

I was thinking about this the other day because I was in need of a new mouse myself. G700 was actually one of my options but I went for a wired G9x in the end mainly because my previous wireless mouse kept dropping out so I had a bit of a thing against them at the time.

There are only 2 issues I've come across:

1. Performance deteriorates with battery life but as long as you change the battery when's its noticable there's not a problem.

2. If you've got a lot of wireless kit nearby then you can get interference.

If both of those issues are managed then a wireless mouse is every bit as good as a wired one plus you don't have an extra wire trailing around. Having said that I don't have an issue with wires impeeding my mouse movement... seriously, how weak are these people?

M&P

The second one you mentioned is very understandable. But the one way the first one would happen is if you either have a option for it enabled or you have a bad mouse.

I have no problem with wireless mice myself as I have had limited use of them. A lot of my friends and family use wireless mice when gaming, with no complaints, so they must be good for gaming.

Lag.

This is the case with most wireless mice with the exception being the high end mice where the difference is negligible. Unless you're the type to min and max everything or you are very very sensitive to lag or you are a professional gamer then the high end wireless mice work awesomely. For causal gamers, there's no difference between wireless and wired in terms of lag.

I'm not understanding what you mean by "tug"

I think by tug he means that he has to constantly pull the wire to give it some slack in order to move it around freely. I have only experienced "tug" with mice that have shorter cables. My new mouse has a pretty long cable and there is no "tug" of any kind.

i personally dont see any problems with using a wireless mouse for gaming if it is of good quality i have used the Razer Mamba and the Razer Naga Epic both wireless however with the option for wired which is great for them long hours of gaming and the mouse starts dying you just plug the cable back in and bingo up and running again

I think the main reason is input lag, and then probably price. It costs a chunk more for a decent wireless mouse compared to a wired one, and to get one where there's no real noticeable input lag. I got the Deathadder and it justs suits my style perfectly. Having said that I wouldn't mind a wireless mouse so I can use it from the bed when I feel lazy, but that's not really gaming

Playing FIFA12 on the PC, I use a wired and my mates wireless controller, I can straight away sense the input lag from the wireless one, not as noticeable with mice but still.

In most games wireless was fine for me. When I played UT2k4 though I could feel the difference. Whenever I played a "twitch" shooter I always switched to a wired mouse.

It's the opposite with me. I can sense lag a lot better when I'm using a keyboard and mouse interface opposed to using a controller.

What's wrong with having a wire on a mouse?

If you play FPS games and are even a little bit competitive I think you'll notice a difference in accuracy

For casual gamers it's probably not a problem

I'm not sure if wireless mice can keep up with 1000hz polling either

Personally I don't have a problem with the wire on a mouse, seems more responsive, no charging of batteries & don't notice input lag

I was trying to say I can sense the difference in input lag between a wired and wireless controller very easily, just as a comparison. It's more difficult for me to tell the difference between wired and wireless mice, but I can still sense it.

I notice no lag with my wireless mouse, and every Monday and Friday I play competitively with my wireless G700. I get 1:1 pixel perfection which is as good as you can get, and 1000 reports a second, which is better than most wired mice. Lag would only apply to wireless mice that were not for gaming. Also I was on the pro circuit a little while back with counter strike (When the G700 was released) and was one of the VERY few who used a wireless mouse. I'm attempting to get back in the pros with BF3 but I do not have as much time as I used to.

If you are still septic of wireless mice, get a G700 for yourself. It has the option to use a wire as well. You will be quite surprised, I know I was going from Razer's Deathadder to it.

Kind of answered your own thread

I agree with you, modern wireless gaming mice are every bit as good as long as the signal gets through. The G700 is every bit as good as my G9x, which is arguably a benchmark, just as long as you keep on top of battery life and interference.

they are better today than ever but here is the thing, it will die on you when you need it most.

you use the g700 as an eg and its biggest plus point that i can see is you can run it with a wire, which kinda defeats the point imo.

wireless is great, dont get me wrong here as i woulnt want a wired desktop in the livingroom for eg or on a cluttered desk used for the more officey tasks but for gaming you want it working fine all the time and for that you need a wire.

if the cable tugs its because you have routed it wrong or need some kind of cable tidy/holder to keep enough slack on the matt.

Am I doubly damned, then? I use wireless trackballs exclusively. No clunky mice for me. I prefer pinpoint precision and complete freedom of orientation.

My wife however, prefers mice. I bought her the Razor Mamba early last year, which was touted as "top of the line". Riiiight... Between the shitty battery and the Win7 driver issues, that mouse was finally retired in December. Now she has the Gigabyte Aivia. There's also the point that we have a three year-old daughter, and we dare not leave mice within her reach.
