What's achieveable?

Hi all,i just tried my first overclock in about 7 years but failed misserably.

I've read on other forums that the phenom 2 X6 1055t is capable of speeds up to 4ghz,rather than the stock 2.8ghz.

I used the bios on my gigabyte UD2H,putting auto settings on and just increasing the core clock with a muliplier of 14 but could only get a stable overclock at 3.1ghz.

Anything over that, the system just hangs or crashes during post.

I'm using the stock cooler which keeps the cores at 33 degrees idle, with a little fluctuation between cores, which is 2 degrees max.

When on load running f@h the temps go up to 38 degrees tops.

So is it the memory i'm running preventing a higher oc,which is mushkin enhanced silverline, ddr3 1333mhz,or something else i'm missing?

These are the idle temps:

Throw it in the trash. Any tower air cooler with a 12-14cm fan will be 1000 times better in terms of temperature and noise.

Once you install better cooling, figure out the voltage, etc.

your cooler is not your problem

these are my settings (game stable):

(notice the voltage needed = 1.512)

for settings that require hexacore-thrashing (like folding) i suggest a max clock of 3.82GHz... this requires a voltage of ~1.47 and a simple adjustment of the bus speed

...

luckily for me, my mobo has OC-Genie. ONE button push was all that was needed to get an easy 3.6GHz. i saved that to a profile (in BIOS) and then tweaked it

. each time saving the BIOS profiles and testing stability, until i was happy.
