whats a safe temp / oc for a q6600?

im running my q6600 at stock at the mo and want to find out what a good oc and max temperature for it is? i've only got stock intel cooling too, so i guess i'm going to be limited right?

if i need to upgrade cooling i can spend up to £100

Well for <£100 you could get a nice XSPC water cooling kit. Its not the best but it will allow for your quad to go higher.. ide say anything under 65c is safe for loads temps.

I'm comfortable with clocking my Q6600 as long as it doesn't reach 70C under full load, which it didn't do when I ran it at 3,375 (9x375). However, when I tried 3,4 with a multi of 8, it wouldn't run stable at all, so I figured it's best to just raise the FSB without changing the multiplier. I had it running through a 3Dmark06-test at 3,6 with no problem at all, but that was just a fun-run for benching, and I didn't set the vCore manually.

Is it the B3 or G0 revision of the Q6600? Remember, it also comes down to the mobo and BIOS, so don't expect to reach the same results if your mobo can't handle it. Also, I would think the stock cooler could handle it, as long as you don't mind the noise.

Stock cooler will not manage a clocked q6600 and you don't need any 'special' water other than deionised... You can get expensive water if you want though

I have to disagree, as I have OC'ed a Q6600 with stock cooler on a friends rig, and it ran prime95 with very nice temps on 3Ghz. Of course I wouldn't be comfortable with clocking it much further, but seeing the temps he got he would've probably get it stable with good temps on 3,2Ghz aswell.

It just depends how far you want to clock and if it’s for 24/7 use or a suicide run.

Well, sure, I wouldn't dream of running my Q6600 on more than 3,4Ghz on air 24/7, but I think I'd be comfortable with running it on 3Ghz on the stock cooler 24/7. Anyway, if anything goes wrong, it's his hardware, not mine, I just showed him the tricks, he's gotta decide for himself if he want's better cooling.

does me fine for my Q6600 at 3.2 , you need to be a serious overclocker to need water , and as your not even sure what cooler you need , you dont sound too hardcore to me
