What Would You Choose, GTS/GTX?!

Hey all!

First post on here and I'm hoping that you will be able to help me make my mind up on what GPU to purchase....

Here are the 2 I've narrowed it down to:

Asus GeForce 8800GTS TOP 512MB

XFX 8800GTX XXX 768MB

Now they're both good cards, I know this but which one is going to last me the longest and still keep up with future games and their requirements?...

And I'm not interested in Crysis... I'm a COD4 man :)

Any of your input is much appreciated as I'm really stuck at this point!

G92 or G80, 512MB or 768MB........................ HELP! lol

Hi there and welcome mate :)

Personally I'd go for the cheaper GTS as there isn't all that much in it between the two in terms of performance. Would recomend spending the left over pennies on upping to 4gbz of ram but your spec say you've already got that base covered. Personally I'm very happy with my 8800GT which I've had 5 or so months, made a huge difference coming from a 7900GTO.

In the end, either will certainly do you proud :)

EDIT: Review Here may be some help in deciding.

Cheers!

Cheers for that mate...

Yes I do have 4gb of RAM even tho I'm running XP Pro 32bit...

I know the GTX has more memory but the GTS is a lot quicker on paper...

Is the GTS as thirsty as the GTX? What PSU wattage would you advise?

in my opinion i would try to save cash and get an 8800gt.I love mine......COD4 maxed out and it plays lovely

Cheers all for your replies...

I'm want to be able to play at max res. on my Samsung SM206BW (1680x1050)...

Am I going to nice the difference between the 8800GT OC and 8800GTS 512MB? I know the GTS is slightly better but is it worth the extra £40?

As you say you want to future proof, the GTX might be the better option, but only if that £40 is there.

From what i've read, the difference isn't so much that you'll notice it in anything other than your electric bill.

No the GTS will be a better card at your res

As your an admin, I'm assuming you know your stuff... I shall order the 512 GTS (Asus Top) and then report back on my findings........

I wonder if it'll be better than my current card haha.....

I doubt you'd see huge amounts and it would depend on your card. I've not specifically tested this but at 1920 x 1200 there are differences - see my review :)

Oh you don't want to listen to the boys in black, they all smoke crack in the mod hut! :p

You might see a slight improvement over your current card ;)

Re. the differences at your res, don't forget once you OC your GTS it pulls away more hand that headroom will do you good in the future.

Well the GTS I'm looking at (£230) is already OC'd by Asus to 740MHz/2070MHz... That's as high as I've seen the GTS clocked....

Only reason I was interested in the GTX XXX was because it is only and extra £30 over the GTS?.......

If I was to buy a cheap GTS at around £160 and OC it myself (I don't know how to yet), would that be the better option?

Ryan :)
