What type of RAM should I choose?

At first I actually though so, but I'm beginning to get second thoughts after reading a review here, where the BallistiX clocks higher than the Reapers. Though I don't think it would post as a problem anyway, seeing as the rig is meant for my gf, so she'll probably run them at stock anyway. 
But then there was the question of whether I'd keep the new sticks for myself and give her the BallistiX, or just buy a set for her at low price (The Reapers are £10 cheaper).

Most RAM doesn't run at its rated speeds these days, unless you part with a serious amount of cash for high end stuff.
As already recommended, OCZ is a good option - they've recently released 9200 Reaper which works well. Dominator 8500 is a good buy. There's not much in it but I'd probably choose OCZ Reaper if it were my build.

Hi, i see that we have a very similiar rigs , i had OCZ sli ready pc-8500 before and i had problems with them (they were suspending my system when i rate them as 1066-at producents timings and voltages, however they worked fine at lover frequencies), so i stayed with crucial ballistix, now i`m waiting for another 2 sticks from Crucial,what about Kingston HyperX 2GB pc-9600 , our mobo can easly handle this type of memory aswell.
I have some of that Reaper HPC stuff (the pc6400) and it clocks excellently.
I have it @ 800mhz 4-3-3-12 @ 2t. It clocks really well if you loosen the timings too, i have hit 980mhz with the stock 5-5-5-12 timings. I have never needed more than 2.08v thru them either.
The Heatpipes also look damn sexy, and you know it - As we know, chicks dig heatpipes :rollingla

Not sure about a preference for a manufacturer, I had a set of OCZ Platinum2 2gb 6400 and it wouldn't even run at the speeds it was meant to. Anything over 5300 and it would crash or when set to 6400 4-4-4-12 / 5-5-5-15 it wouldn't even post.
I got a replacement set and that was even worse as it wouldn't even post. When paired with GSkill 2GBHZ it came up with an error beep on the memory check screen.
I gave up when I found the second set was also faulty
I've also heard of a few other people who have had similar problems with OCZ memory

All 3 are good... I have a preference for OCZ usually cause they clock really well and are well priced.
unfortunately if your O/c expection arent that high you are good with them, however those new IC in the crucial are nothing near the good old D9(GMH) , recently crucial switched to single sided DIMMs, 8 chips on 1 side whereas the good old D9(GMH) DIMMs got 8 chips on each side, also these Dimms got allot of compability problems and seems to die even faster :X

Overall, OCZ Is probably your best choice in my opinion. Corsair makes some good sticks, but OCZ clocks really well, as already stated, and you can usually get a damn good deal on it to boot, so, win?
