What RAM to Chose

Hello
I started building new machine(have almost all of the parts except Ram and still waiting for case to arrive). Will be using ARIVBE,i7 4930 and i decide to use dominator platinum 16gb 1866mhz for now.
Now i don't know which ram to chose 8x8kithttp://www.corsair.com/en/dominator...ual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmd16gx3m2a1866c9
or should i chose 4x4http://www.corsair.com/en/dominator...ual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmd16gx3m4a1866c9
Is there any difference in performance and if does how big?
Thanks in advance.

If it was me i'd go for the 2 x 8gb kit. I'm pretty sure there's no difference in performance

It seems a little backward to buy a 4930k and RIVBE to then get a Dual Channel memory kit. I'm sure it would work with negligible performance losses for day to day/gaming/graphical stuff.

The difference between single and dual channel translates to 0.1fps in Valley so i'd imagine the difference between dual and quad would be actually nothing. I'd still buy 4x4 over 2x8 though. (i'm assuming you made a typo in the OP when you said 8x8, that would be insane)

If youve got a 2011 board and put 2 ram sticks in youll just look a n000b and be laughed at.

Id personally suggest 4x4 2133mhz though - all yes ALL memory will need some tweaking in the bios wether its XMP or manual settings and the 4930 can deffo cope with 2133. If youve spend that much money already you might as well.

Thank you for replay guys it is much appreciated.
Reason i chose 1866mhz was because according to intel page 4930k Mem specs are for DDR3-1333/1600/1866
Difference in pricing between 1866 and 2133 would be around 118 euro for 4x4 gb kit so that wouldn't be a problem. For now i will go for 16gb and if i see i need more i will go for another 16 gb kit.
Corsair ram is a bit pricey and i would hate it to buy ram that is not compatible with either MBO or in this case with CPU.

In one of Tom's videos (can't remember off the top of my head) he talks about Intel always putting slower buffer speeds for compatible RAM, I think he mentioned that this was just to cover themselves, JUST in case but it should be compatible no worries!

I'm gonna have to study this more. I actually didn't realise there were performance advantages to be had having 4 sticks over 2 in a 2011 set up. Then again i've never looked into going over to 2011 etc.

Apologies for my bad advise OP

Yeah man quad channel ftw!!

You just need to set the memory up 2133 is the minimum you should be aiming for tbh

If you dont know how to manually set memory then you just need to follow our guides....

OP

4 x 4gb

If you go for 2133mhz look for memory with good timings as well

Something around Cas 9-11-10 is pretty good for that speed.

Cheers Tom I appreciate it very much.
Need to wait 5-10 days for delivery of memory.I will do it like you said.
If I hit a snag, i know where to turn in for help :p
Will post all of the tests and pics when i finish building it.

That will work well with X79 and looks good in real life too.

The only downside with the Dominator Platinums is you pay a bit extra for the looks but it is nice RAM. I use it in 3 of my PCs.:)
