What is the best overclock for a 6870?

Hello I have a sapphire radeon hd 6870 (cooling is beyond belief) and I use the sapphire trixx overclocking utility to overclock the memory, voltage, and core clock.

the card is rated at 900mhz core clock and 1050mhz memory clock and 1175 voltage (im assuming its 1.175?) and I was wondering what is the best overclock for performance. I mean all i did was overclock to 950mhz and 1075mhz and kept the voltage same and I can play crysis on ultra high everything with 8Xaa and get a good 30fps average (lows of 25) keeping it cool at under 70 degrees. I dont want to damage the card at all but I want to be able to get rid of the low framerates completely.

do you think i should overclock more? if so what is the best clock speeds? im afraid to overdo it and I want to play it safe. but its sooo tempting.

There is no god combination you have to find you own. Get as high as you can, clocks wont damage your card but changing the voltage and heat that is made will. There is nothing to worry the pc will shut down if the temperatures exceed the given limit. I would personally stay below the 80C at full load all time. If you want higher clocks try adding a fan that will blow cool air on the card, changing the cooling of the card.

i already have a fan. the day i got the case i got a blue led 120mm side fan it adds more dust but keeps it more cool.

what exactly does changing the voltage to? that confused me a bit. So far Ihaven't messed with it but yeah

Alright I think I have myself the perfect overclock. It is extremely stable, i ran furmark at xtreme burning for about 20 minutes and it never went over 77 degrees (after about 3 minutes it just hovered between 75-77) I overclocked the core clock to 975mhz and the memory clock to 1100mhz and the voltage to 1.2v (i think thats what it is the software says 1200).

all sustaining a minimum framerate of 35 fps and a max of 38 or so

from what i see the core and memory clock are the main performance (high res helps when you have faster memory clock) and then if you dont have enough voltage you get artifacts so you add a little voltage problem is voltage gets your card hot. lucky me this sapphire 6870 non reference has an eccelent cooler and TRIXX is excellent. (though i think afterburner still wins).

nice. mine is a reference so I went with 920 c clock and 1120 m clock on crossfire set up. in Unigine on max i got 60 more points and min fps went from 2.5 to 14.1 and max fps improved by 4fps. the oc is with ccc @ stock voltage

click the hwbot img in my sig, scroll down to gpu on the left of the page that opens and search for your card. you will find the fastest they have been ran and benched their :thumb:
