you cannot check temps if it does not start... and even if is temps it would take ages to go above the temp... my CPU can go all the way into windows with no HSF.

I think the HDD issue is a red herring. concentrate on the memory. the controoler may have gone.

That is my thoughts as well, although not about the controller it is a good possibility. Something has definitely goon BOOM

If its an old OEM board it's likely that it's just died with time. I've seen this with a few 478 setups.

There's one obvious thing that I hope you've tried but no-ones mentioned. Take one stick of the original ram, put that in the non-knackered slot and try that...

As I said I hope you've tried that.

And from what I've gathered you haven't toutched the HSF at all? If that's the case it's not going to be overheating.

Its not temps

It doesnt get to windows it just simply does not POST at all so theres no point considering its temps as temps wouldnt even get that high with no heatsink at all in 3 seconds (tested at college personally xD)

Yeh i tried the original RAM in the other slot but it seems something has died

Only way for me to go now is to fit my good old sempy 2600+ and asrock k7vt4a+ motherboard

Did me well all those years ago lol - will have to dig out an AGP card too tho i think :S

Same thing happened to me, (once, have learned since) static - I'm convinced there is a demon at work, just waiting to cause all sorts of havoc at the slightest chance. People think I'm mad for walking about in bare feet when *****ing about with internals of pc, but it's the only way to be absolutely sure !

ebay is definitely your best bet with regards to AGP mate, they are all rip-off now although a year or so ago ebuyer sold of a few hundred 7600GT's for £40 which was a steal- they didn't last long.

I'd go with one of these as the BIN ones are usually a bit of a rip-off as well, much better to bid and grab a bargain!
