What Graphics Card to get!?

ive been playing ultra settings with a 260

Ultra doesn't work, maximum is high

It would most likely be around 10 to 15. 2 FPS is margin of error so it's VERY doubtful that an AMD optimized game will only be 2 FPS off. Same with Nvidia optimized games.

Using numbers is misleading, and I don't know where you pull these figures from. Is dirt3 optimized for AMD? In some games it might make a difference, but in BF3 I doubt it.

As I've said about 10 times, the rigs running BF3 at E3 had GTX 580s in them.

Sure you'll need a top-end card to get the best, and this BETA is rather crappy for performance so don't rely on it and i think it can't be DX11, in respect to DICE the final version should support DX11, so to get the X11 advantages you'll need a DX11 capable card. Ultra setting works for me.

It's said it's AMD optimised though I doubt that means it's mainly dedicated to AMD hardware. I guess it isn't supporting some of Nvidia's extra speacial effects and otherwise it's quite standard, dunno though? Bloody consoles

The Beta allowed the ultra settings to be used. I maxed out everything including AA and such and the average at 1920 x 1200 was roughly around 60fps. And that was before I downloaded and installed the new 285.36 drivers that supposedly improve performance.

Where does it say it's AMD optimized ?

It was developed to optimize all of the cores on the 8 core Bulldozers but I haven't seen anything saying it's optimized for AMD GPUs.

it didn't let me play with older drivers. i've got 287.XX installed I think, i saw two BETA drivers, the other being your 285.36.

Is there any unique AMD only features used?

Alot of games are heavily Nvidia optimised i think because of money, quite obviouse, nVidia ploughs massive funds into the games development and I think AMD has a smaller budget, so reflecting in the optimisation for their hardware? dunno though

So maby EA has made an extra effort with AMD in BF3?

Yes but it would not enable ultra, did you notice a difference between ultra and high?

I didn't really check for that. There won't be that much difference between the two settings anyway. I did see a drop in frames when I cranked everything up though, which would suggest that it did enable ultra, unless I was seeing things/the environment changed in the game to cause frame drops.

10 to 15 FPS difference is basic knowledge when a company optimizes a game for a specific card. I am getting my results from previous video games that have been optimized for a specific card. All the Nvidia based games all have about a 10 to 15 FPS difference over the AMD and same goes for the other way around. how could you not know this?

Also what does E3 have to do with anything?

If you are subbed to the AMD channel on YouTube they did a who video on it talking to the creators of BF3 and both DICE and AMD were bragging about AMD optimization.

You forget that the AMD drivers are usually crap anyway, that accounts for a lot of that. Anyway no game would ever be optimised for a specific card nowadays, with so many people having different cards.

They played the game on nVidia cards at E3

AMD drivers are REALLY good now. They were bad before 11.4 after that with 11.8 they have been VERY solid.

Also what you said "Anyway no game would ever be optimised for a specific card nowadays." very wrong! Crysis 2 being the latest example.

do you know, will the official BF3 have alot of tesselation? The BEAT has none or next to that.

The image clarity is nice, and gameplay, it remined me of like; Medal of Honour cross Crysis 2 style.

I think it's best to get the top-end cards because for price to performance ratio I think they're better and they get the best efforts for driver code

naaaa fella, get the 570!
laugh.gif

why now?

because,....,it's excellent. The game world loves the GF110, that's the optimised FERMI architecture, the support is top of its class, it's the best chip nVidia sells, it got excellent reviews & consider TTL(TinyTomLogans Youtube review) compared the 6970 as an effort to match the 480, the 570 is a touch of class above and seems suitable for BF3 because its FERMI is optimised at a broader range of graphics over the GF100 and that's what BF3 is made of, a mix of DX9 & 11, I think? I hope

And it's a bloody good start for getting 2nd 570 later and it fits the x8 bandwidth of the 1155 very suitably, and....and blablabla and!

erm nVidia control panel options! compatability with RAGE and..
