To quote Rob Zombie's Living Dead Girl -
Who is this irresistible creature who has an insatiable love for the dead?
I love creepy things. Big time. As the game developed and unfolded I began to find myself strangely interested in Alma. The thing is my feelings were pretty much spot on. She had been abducted as a child and treated horribly. I also sensed right from the beginning that she wasn't trying to hurt me as every time I got into a scuffle with her she didn't do any damage.
So I didn't find being raped by her and then touching her pregnant belly very unsettling really
Every time the mission flashed up saying you had to kill her I felt empathy toward her. She just looks so sad. As I say, you come to find out why.. Pretty messed up really.
Games don't frighten me hardly ever. This one scared me once IIRC. And that was when the lights went out and then started strobing and spirits started to walk around. If you are into the macabre this game is really spot on. The flash burnt people who turned to dust when you touched them (due to the atom bomb) was just a stroke of genius, and the bit where you saw their spirits and souls whisping around was really spine tingling but I wouldn't call the whole experience scary.
It was just strangely compelling.
The only time a game has truly sh*t me up was Doom 3. The double take red flash in the toilet made me jump so high I broke my keyboard tray clean off the rollers. Fallout 3 put the wind up me a few times too, especially with my Earforce on. But only really when a ghoul comes up behind you and goes OOMBERRR (ghoul noise).
Fear 2 is absolutely amazing tbh. A real creepy delight
