So, I appear to be saved from languishing away with my totally non-overclockable Club3D 7950 I bought recently, as a mate has asked me to build a rig for him and is more than happy with the idea of using that card stock(he's not a techy), but that puts me right back where I was before I settled on aforementioned card; paralysed by indecision.
I'm not going to risk the lottery again, as despite what I initially thought I'm not willing to settle for stock 7950 performance in the event I got another one that can't OC/doesn't OC well, which means a 7970 is the best combination of price to performance to longevity, but I'm completely unsure which one to go for.
Most of the comparisons between the cards seem to focus on performance vs temps to differentiate the various offerings, but that's completely irrelevant to me as I'm going to be modding the card with a Kuhler 620 on the GPU and some aftermarket VRM/VRAM heatsinks, I'm more interested in which card gives me the best chances in the silicon lottery, whether the card's warranty permits modding and OC'ing, general reliability etc etc. Obviously the cheaper it is the better as well, heh.
I was hoping the sales would bring out a clear choice, but there've been disappointingly few offers on the 7970 in the UK, and those that do exist are sold out now from what I can find. Any suggestions are welcome.
