It sets my posts apart from everyone else. It would be like posting in green or blue.

Ummm no... It's a forum wide option that's been put in place to reduce annoying ass redundant signature posts. It's basic posting etiquette to only post your sig once per page, but most n00bs don't know that and whore up their sig every post that they get a chance and annoy everyone else on the forum while doing so.
