Weird GPU issues?

I'm not certain it is my GPU, but I really need help.
I recently upgraded my GPU because I thought I had heating issues with my 4890. I've swapped it out for a club 3D 7870 joker. it seems it gets very hot on games even such as league of legends, which I wouldn't expect really from a game like that. The fan is surprisingly noisy and sometimes I get horrible crashes where the picture gets skewed up and looks like lots of horizontal lines. (does not blue screen).
Is this an issue with my new GPU or something further? How can I help improve my GPU temperatures etc?
Anyone had similar problems & could offer some insight as to what is happening? I thought it might be my RAM so I have some new RAM on the way aswell.
HELP :(

Temps seems to be fine. 30 idle, 50 on load, never seen it go above 60, but then I wouldnt know if it does when it crashes :s

OK get Afterburner and get it to log your temps to a file.

Also run Furmark on it to see if that makes it crash. Otherwise it's just driver issues.

i really wouldn't run furmark on it. It destroys cards (i should know it ate one of my 580's)

But I agree with logging the temps, ignore the Vsync/aftermarket comment that doesn't sound like the problem at all.

Can you post your full system specs please? this is screaming of bad PSU to me...

Asus Crosshair Formula IV
2x2gb Trident G skill 1600mhz RAM
Club 3D Radeon HDd7870
Coolermaster 700w PSU (modular with both GPU 6 pins in the GPU)
AMD Phenom x6 1050t 2.8ghz (i think)
Thermaltake Frio CPU cooler
4 HDD's 7200rpm Sata2

I know this may sound a tad silly, but on the fans of your GPU, JUST check you have removed the plastic from them

My sisters 7950 was loud and hot when playing WoW in low settings. We took it out, and noticed we had left the thin, film layer on the fans. Once we took it off, the GPU was quiet and running a lot cooler.

I would assume that the case you stuck all that in is not a very good home for the 7870, try running it with the side panel off, see if that helps in any way. If the crashes still happen, it's the card, especially with the artefacts you get.
