Ways to combat the CAPS on LGA775

Using a chilly1 or similar on your mach unit is great - better cooling under load - easy mounting, less risk of condensation.

However - with the emergence of Conroe Intel motherboards will be back in favour, most of which have the capcitors situated closer to the socket than any other motherboard. For normal mach or vapochill heads this is not a problem - but the unique mounting of chilly style heads it creates a problem.

Not really been an issue before, mainly cause Intel have not been competitive in the enthusiast market.

The idea of this thread is to post your aolutions to this problem with supporting pics where possible.

My own thoughts are to use a mach mounting kit - Drilling through the top plate (so chilly bolts can be used), discard the metal head mount and possibly cutting away some of the plastic on the top mount to enure the chilly head makes full contact with the cpu.

The option to use seal string to seal teh mount to the board is still an option, although a thicker neoprene gasket will allow for the head to be raised high enought for the chilly 'donut' to clear the caps completely - of coure this will mean trimming the chilly donut too (as to avoid excessive compression and subsequent 'bulging' of the neoprene seal).

I don't have picks as this is just my thoughts (I dont have an Intel system at present).

Post your thoughts, ideas or proven techniques here.

mav it ant going to be a problem with single stage imo

but the easy solution is to use a vapo clamshell mount i have always used this as a mounting and works very well the whole kit can be bought locally

for £64 i think and fits the chilly1 well with a lil bit of adustment.

A lot of it will be motherboard specific.. most of us use individual mounts anyway so that`ll just continue with the new mobos.

From what I remember of the C1 mount... the neoprene would be the only prblem...cutting it away at the bottom should be ok? or cutting out sections for each offending component.

I have checked the designs of all of the conroe ready enthusiast boards and they all have caps incredibly close to the socket.

Skt 479 however, you are spoiled for the space :O

Be interesting to see how people have made that happen - sounds like a great solution.

MUAHAHA go for Merom/Yonah then... :D

If ECT could "copy" the vapochill hold-down without copying it (if ya know what I mean) it would make for a much better installation...the Asetek system really does win hands down.

The thread is to look for solutions for Conroe ;) The 479 was a contrasting comment (freudian slip to say if they can do it on that platform then WTF).

The main isue with emulating ASETEK is the amount of red tape you have to get round to proves that you are not breaking one of their patented designs - I think ECT had it with spring loaded bolts FFS.

So back to the problem in hand - solutions for chilly1 heads and Conroe ready 'bad axe' 775 mobos.

companys do not take individuals to task imo

and any ho how would any one no you were using a vapo mount

true mate true

Please can you get some pics of how to fit the vapo head to my chilly ;)

all you do is remove some of the foam with a sharp knife (its about 3mm)

or just enough to allow the chilly evap to sit proud of the camshell by about 1 mm

as for assembly

first remove a the iner foam

then push the evap through the empty camshell

place the to halfs around the suction return pipe

push the lot back into the camshell

last of all place the whole piece of foam in and you are done

the kit provided has all the other bits to attach the unit to the m/b

Humm wander if this is going to affect my Kayl head!!!

mav i'll let you know in a week in regards to a Kayl head.
