Watercooling Spec Check

Heya everyone,

Looking at upgrading from a H100i as I've reached it's cooling ability with my AMD 8350. I've pieced together the following spec and I just wanted to make sure it's all good and will work nicely :)

Pump & Res: K-DDC 3.2 PWM X-RES 100 with EK-UNI D5 Holder

Radiator: Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 240mm or BlackICE SR1-240

CPU Block: Aqua Computer Culplex Kyros Delrin for AMD

Hose: XSPC 7/16" ID High Flex Tubing

Fittings: XSPC G1/4" to 7/16" ID, 5/8" OD Compression Fitting (Black Chrome)

The coolant I'll be going with is the Mayhems Pastel Ice White!

I'm open to suggestions and advice :)

Cheers
Callum

Other than the coolant, it looks good. Mayhems coolant is more suitable for show rigs as it has to be changed every three months, and can stain tubing.

Thanks for the reply!

With regards to the Pastel coolant, I was under the impression that it's one of the longer lasting ones?

I quote from the Mayhems website:

"Mayhems Pastel is one of the longest lasting coolants out on the market to date and will last over 3 years with no problems ever reported and this actually makes the coolants more economically viable than any other premixed coolant on the market."

Not that I would leave it that long, I was aiming to change every 9 - 12 months.

What are your system specs?

Can you link us to the pump/reservoir/pump top please. You've got DDC and D5 in there so I'm a little confused about what you're meaning.

The EK-UNI D5 Holder is a bracket mount for the case ;)

My System specs as follows:

CPU: AMD 8350 @ 4.8Ghz (Will be hopefully 5Ghz with this new water cooling set up)

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

Graphics Card: MSI 280x

PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1200Watt

Case: Corsair Carbide AIR 540

I'd go for a D5 pump in that case, rather than a DDC.

The D5s are quieter, and more powerful so you may find it easier to add a GPU or two to the loop later on.

As for the coolant, the Pastel coolant certainly isn't for longer term use. It's meant more for show rigs, and you will run into issues a few months down the line with it.

If you're really wanting white, you'd be better off with white tubing and clear coolant.

Thanks for the advice, I'll swap that DDC out for a D5 :)

With regards to the coolant, I was so set on the Pastel White :( I might opt for something else or like you say, get white tubing.

The deep black coolant in Orca went murky brown in months :/

What radiator fans are you using by the way? :)

Yeah, I remember reading about that. I'll be getting white tubing now :)

I'll be recycling my SP120 fans from the H100i. I was going to buy Quiet Edition's but I see no point whatsoever apart from squeaky clean and colored rings ;) and I can always run them at a reduced speed using software.

Also, How does one go about bleeding the system with colored tubing?

I have colored tubing and clear liquid in my build. The bleeding process is the same - but if you want to check the fill in the tubes themselves, use a light source and place it behind the tube and look at it. It is quite easy to see the fill progress there. (I used my phones led light).

Bleeding the rads on the other hand, that was less fun for me.
