Watercooling-Alternative for Noctua NH-D14

Hey guys. Ok i`ve been using my NH-D14 for almost a year now and it is a great Cooler. Now i`m trying to get my Rig quieter with changing some things and the NH-D14 is quiet but not silent so i was thinking about getting one of Corsairs or Antecs closed Cpu-Watercoolers. Because i only have limited room in my Case the H100 is out of the picture. So basically, what i`m askin is: Would something like the Corsair H60,H70 or H80 with a Corsair SP120 Quiet fan be more quiet than my NH-D14. Remember, i want it to be quieter, not cooler. I have some concerns regarding the noise from the pump.

Hope someone can give me an absolute yes or no.

Basically...... No. If the D14 isnt quiet enough use the fan speed adapters, if its still not quiet enough you are pretty stuck.

You arent stuck...
But watercooling still has the fans, and adds the pump in as well. You arent really gunna be able to buy quieter fans than the noctuas anyway. I run mine at 7v and they're silent enough for me. I've tried running at 5v too but the trade off for temps doesnt seem worth it as I dont think 7v is loud enough to warrant them being quieter.
So even if you have the quietest fans possible on the rad, you're still left with the pump noise - which will most likely be louder than the fans anyway.

If you arent bothered about keeping the overclock, the only other option really is the nofan Icepipe cooler as it's passive. But I'd still rather just have the noctua if it was me

@Azuka09, are you sure that the noice comes from CPU cooler?
i would think its your PSU if your case dont have fans or the PSU dont spin its fan at that load.

Edit: Noctuas that i have, arent quiet but still i think the broble maybe in other place.

The 'D14 is far from quiet, until you drop down to 7v. 5v it's inaudible, and it still gets reasonable temps. I don't go above 75*C with a 3770k at 4.5GHz 1.21v folding 24/7.

I dont know how you find your D14 loud.
I too run it at 7v, but I find it quieter than any other fan I've used running at 12v.
Agreed I still think that running it at 12v is too loud to run at when you're sat next to the PC, but It's quieter than everything else running at 12v

It's the 140mm fan. It's a real screamer.
I dunno, through all the reviews of the Noctua, i'm beginning to feel as if i'm being a little too picky over the noise. I mean, I've never thought of my hearing to be especially good, but I dunno.
I had one of the 140mm fans from Noctua on its own, and had to return it because it was just too god damn noisy!
Silence is key :(

Hmm, which other fans do you have in your rig?

I consider myself very very picky about fan noise. I've bought sets of 5 fans and stopped using them after two days because of noise. I didnt even think of returning them, just accepted the loss of like 50 quid

I run Blue LED Silverstone Air Penetrators at 7v in mine. I find them very quiet, and as I have 5 of them, plus a 140mm Bitfenix Spectre, and a BeQuiet Silent Wings 2 to direct air to the graphics card, so 7 case fans in total, plus the 2 on the noctua, it still remains very quiet. The loudest thing in my rig is my graphics card which is reference as I was going to WC it... I realise now that I should have got a quieter version, but I am now seriously considering watercooling it on it's own :)

Ok i researched a little and really listened to every part of my computer and i`m gonna change the PSU because mine is pretty much one of the louder parts so i`m gonna get myself a Corsair AX650 and i`m gonna get a decent Fan-Controller to spin down my NH-D14 and my other fans (3x Be Quiet Shadow Wings MS) and that should eliminate most of the sound. I was thinking about getting Noctua NF-S12s and mount them on the NH-D14 but i don`t no if that would limit the Airflow way too much.

Don't bother with a fan controller, get voltage reducers or 7v adapter cables:

Most fan controllers work by rapidly turning fans on and off, and with some fans actual adds more noise. The D14 comes with the ULNA? Why arent you using them? Also your BeQuiet fans should have come with a 7v reducer?

You have good fans as it is, you dont need to replace them, just set them up properly in the first place.

Fan controllers are for noobs.

The Problem is i misplaced the ULNA for NH-D14 and can`t find it. And Actually you are right, the BeQuiets have 7v Adapters and i just installed them, now they are really quiet. Thanks for the advice so far.

Plug the NF-P14 of the noctua (the large fan) into one of the 7v bequiet adapters, and run the be quiet at 12v. I'd imagine that would be the quietest way to go from the resources that you have.
If you email noctua, they will most likely send you extra ULNAs if you explain your situation. If not, either go for one of the bitfenix 7v reducers, , or probably a cheaper option would be to go for fan splitters and use the 7v bequiet adapters for more than one fan.

Btw, I have my fans set up exactly the same. All my fans running at 7v through included adapters from my bequiet silent wings 2, and my silverstone APs

I`ve got another Problem. I wanted to make a Profile in MSI Afterburner for my Graphicscard to turn down the fanspeed but the lowest setting is 40% witch is standart. Is there a program to turn that down further like to 30% or can i unlock some funktion for that in Afterburner?

EDIT: Found the Option but it somehow does`t work for my graphicscard, lower then 40 ain`t possible

For some cards I think the lowest the fans go to is 40%. It was a problem for some users with 6870s because they were seriously loud all the time.

Could be more specific to yours if you're running the OC version, but that's only speculation

@Azuka09, i havent find silent PSU that have fan spining all time.
You need to buy meter to plug betwean power cord and wall to know howmuch your normal use realy takes power out of wall.

If its under 600w you may be good and get fanless PSU like i have and so that isnt problem if it takes over 600w in worstcase(100% stress on cpu's and gpu's) then you may try to find one that has fan of on low loads.

Thats just my option on PSU problem migth be different product on your country.

@Jamesriley94, "Fan controllers are for noobs." ? What the...
"BeQuiet fans should have come with a 7v reducer" hmm what those are then?

He meant a dedicated device, usually fitted in an optical bay, with knobs etc. to determine fan speeds.
Also - check out the corsair PSUs. They're not loud.

Yeh the corsair psu's dont even spin up unless you're gaming or stressing stuff.

And yeh, anything that shows on the outside of the case is nooby :) You shouldnt ever need to change the speed of the fans once you've set them all up in the first place.
