Water Damaged Earphones

Last night I was listening to some music and one of my earphones dropped out of my ears and accidentally fell into my bottle of water. I stopped my music and unplugged them to let them dry over night and when I came back this morning, the left (the earphone that fell into the water) has a slightly diminished bass and it sounded a little quieter.

I have very sensitive ears so I could hear the difference but just to make sure it wasn't the placebo effect I asked my brother to test them out (without telling him which one I had water on) and he came to the same conlusion. My earphones are a high quality pair called thr Ostry KC06A that cost me £45 of massdrop and really don't want to lose them as I cannot afford another pair. Is their anyway to fix them or to dry it out further? Many thanks!

Try putting them in a bowl of rice over night, or a bag with some silica packets to really remove any remaining moisture.

I will try that out as I heard its very effective. Do you reckon their is still moisture in there? And do you reckon it's fixable.

Hard to tell, as you know water and electronics don't mix, only time and a good drying session will tell.

there is probably foam or something similar in your earbuds. it's quite common to find stuff like that in higher/mid tier headphones. But also that stuff takes ages to dry fully. Also the diaphram on the speaker can be sensitive to moisture making it sound dull. So let them dry fully give it 3 days I'd say and then try them again.

I'm going out now to buy a pack of rice. Fingers crossed my earphones haven't been damaged.

Edit: just managed to pick some up and I've got it in a container so let's see how it goes.

Okay so it's been in rice for 36 hours and I just listened to it and the sound had gone back to normal in the left earbud however the bass is still diminished. What do recommend I do guys?

This is why I always buy Shure earphones. You can submerge them in water for days, let them dry out and they will work as before!

Diminished bass can be persistent water still present so there is a chance the rice did not absorb all of the moisture. but I would suggest you put them back in. I just hope you haven't been tempted to poke and prod the interior in some way.

Earphones like yours can take quite a long time to remove all moisture.

just leave them in the open. No need to rice them any further.

Okay guys thanks. I will just leave them out in the open and hope for the best. Lucky I haven't poked around in the interior (its all metal so I cant) ;). Is it okay to use them to burn back in or should just leave them?
