We have a Teamspeak server which is better than Vent, in my opinion

  • Teamspeak gives voice lag
  • The codecs are no way near as good as Vent
  • Teamspeak is unstable on some systems
  • Teamspeak also takes up much more resources
  • Teamspeak has a strict licensing

But all is opinion :D, I'm glad I got a Vent server because Teamspeak was damn slow in game. The 3 second lag is amazingly bad, means you lost a map because of lag.

Really? We never had any lag at all but perhaps that's because Jimbo set it up and our servers are our servers, not other people's.

We had one from a company FREE with our server on a 1GB connection, and I also hosted one on my comp and the latency was still the same. Same delay, Vent has around 1second lag, perhaps less, even if the latency is higher.

But meh, I don't use Vent or TS really any more:D.

Well, I'll see you there matey :).

I've always wanted to go to a LAN, although, taking all my equipment, finding decent travel and other financial aspects are pushing me back a bit.

I worked out the rough cost of the event with a friend;

Travel - 250miles, the average car does 50mpg, 5 gallons, £25, split between two people = £12.50

Food - Take my own, 3 days worth of food = £50.00

Ticket = £80.00

Total = £142.50, and hopefully someone else will bring a tent, or I can use an old one my parents have. Still, £142.50 is a lot of money for someone my age.

Some of my mates organised a LAN last August for 20 players, cost them £5 each and that was the BBQ (all you can eat on the firtst evening) Sleeping accomodation etc was provided.

Not sure if the post about it is still up on the realitymod forum. It was a very good 2-3 days.

If enough interest is there from OC3D regulars I could maybe look into it for about the summer time.
