Okay, so I have some extra cash to spend and I thought what better to do than buy a new SSD?

So I have been looking at some SSDs and have noticed one in particular:

The OCZ Vertex 3, it is still to be released I know. I have read a review of it and the results are pretty brilliant. Beating a 10k RPM HDD by 10 times!

I am asking yous is there a better SSD out there for me and perhaps cheaper?

Also when putting in this SSD what are the steps that I should go through in order to change my operating system to it.

It is something that is sort of got me confused, thank you for your help again

All you would need to do is reinstall Windows onto your SSD. I would recommend a fresh install. Assuming you are running Windows 7 you want to turn on Trim. For that open the cmd as an administrator and type: fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

To check whether Trim is enabled or not type: fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

If the result is 0 Trim is enabled, if it is 1 then it is disabled.

And yes I am running Windows7.

I recently lost my SSD (died on me) am looking for one also, just for the OS and a few programs, what size would you guys recommend?

If you just install the OS on an SSD and all programs on a normal drive, would it still be quicker?

What ones should I be looking at?

i personally hate the Ocz SSD's, i had 3 in 11 months and all of them died... good thing the people at ebuyer took them back

Corsair SSD's on paper are very good, as are the crucial SSD's and The Kingston v+100 but i would go for mushkin.. because well its mushkin.

64GB is normally enough for most people, but if you are super paraonaid about updates and such go for a 128GB, also if you have the programme files on a seperate drive, i think windows will still boot quicker as it doesnt need programme files do boot? but opening programmes will remain at standard HDD speed.
