So here we go, i've gone through pretty much game i've got installed on my machine
i skipped a few that seem to have broke since i switched graphics cards, and a few where i didn't think i'd see too much difference (only one of the COD series and the assassins creed series for example)
A reminder of the rig
i7 960 @ 4.2GHz
6GB 1600MHz RAM
HD7970 @ 1125/1575
So I'll go in alphabetical order (BTW, some of them have smaller and a bit harder to read OSD text, thats because i remembered part way thru you could change the size but couldn't be bothered to go back and change it on the previous shots)
First up is Assassins creed revelations, probably the most surprisingly low one of the bunch, I know its basically a console port but you would have thought this big open world would have used more than 700mb
Next up is aliens vs predator, I was surprised with this one because it ate the VRAM up but the GPU usage was pretty low
Civilisation V, now I dont actually play this game, like ever, because its crap, but this one surprised the hell out of me, over 2GB of VRAM for something that you wouldn't think is taxing at all
Now for Combat Mission: Shock Force, a title I don't think any of you will have heard of, but if anyone out there plays it give me a shout
This game is pretty badly coded and is heavily physics based and CPU bound, it is not multi threading enabled and even at 4.2GHz my CPU just doesn't have the grunt to do it lol, still its VRAM we're concerned about here
Crysis warhead up next:
And just for fun here's one running in 3D
Crysis 2 up now, again don't play this one because I don't like it very much, it's only running in DX11 and without the high res pack, because i CBA to download it
Far cry 2, pretty much what i'd expect
Call of duty, modern warfare 3 up next, another console port, and for some reason even though GPU usage is very low frame rates weren't locked at 60 FPS, strange
Napoleon total war now, one of my favourite games, and as I expected a VRAM hog. One of the few games i played here that actually drew me into actually playing the game instead of just getting screenies lol
Need for speed the run, this game seems to be a bit broken, regardless of Vsynch being on or off FPS seems locked to 30, GPU use is stupidly low, but hey as its a driving game its playable
Rage, this game just plain wouldn't work, froze every 2 seconds so i just grabbed what I could
Red Orchestra 2, heroes of stalingrad. This is built on the Unreal Engine 3 which i believe is a bit aging now despite this being a new game, but it is quite a niche market one.
Finally shogun total war 2, as expected again quite a VRAM hog, although for some reason would not let me turn AA on
Hope these help
