Very worrying windows performance score and gpu usage

I have an HD 5850 and my wps used to be 7.8 for both graphics scores but this morning I re ran it and I now get 7.3, after looking online I can clearly see that 7.3 for a 5850 is not right.

Also when playing any game, no matter how my cpu usage is my gpu usage never goes above about 80% and is usually around 60-70%

Any idea what is causing this?

Cheers

hd 5850 more than 2 years old graphics card, i think 7.3 is fine, wps updates iteself as new hardware comes along, so your graphics used to be a 7.8 graphics card, but now a 7970 or a 680 will be a 7.9 wep, so your graphics card got marked down. still a capable card though.

as for the usage either you are hitting your fps limit (usually vsync), that means your gfx dont have to run any harder or something else in your system is bottlenecking (most probabaly cpu)

Yes but my score was a 7.8 and after checking online that is the correct score for a 5850

Is it actually hindering gaming performance at all?

I dont tend to care too heavily on WEI scores, but I think my old 5830 score 7.5/7.6 so it should be higher than that at least

Yeah in games the gpu usage never goes abouve 80-85 and usually stays anywhere between 60-75

dont sweat WEI scores mate there made to drive ya bonkers and spend money ya dont need to. As said before it takes into account alot of things within your rig as well as what else is out there. You might of had a 7.8 when for example you had your cpu stock, now again an example says its overclocked now so it WE sees a difference and adjusts everything accordingly or in some cases just one thing.

I normally run WEI after a new install so it doesnt try and do it on its own while I'm doing something else. I dont put alot of faith in its scoring

Oh yeah I know WEI mean eff all but its just the fact that for other people it is higher, nothing has changed in my pc lately either, its more the low gpu usage that i am worried about

well I'd be more worried if my gpu usage hit 100% that'd mean I need to upgrade to more power gpu usage can fluctuate thru different games and even the same game I'm gonna bet maybe a driver update helped you usage and lowered your score. It may of been a windows update that did this.

I don't think that's correct, if you were geting 100 gpu usage and crappy fps then yes it would be worrying but i'm pretty sure that 99% is what it should be at

not every game uses 100% I dont thin k I have ever seen any of my cards even get close to 75% yet alone past it. I think your over thinking it mate

Well I certainly know that this isn't right

Despite the cpu only being at 79% usage the gpu won't go past 35% now that aint right

are you having difficulties playing games????? trying to gather info here. I see 57fps which is good so not sure what issues your having

My WEI score is 5.7, you can see my specs in SIG I wouldn't take it seriously lol.

I know it's due to me not having a high speed storage device but still.

Well no, but looking at videos online I can see that even when recording with fraps on my gpu people are getting 80+ fps

without knowing the rest of your rig compared to theirs no one can really answer this. I know comparing 5850's should be like comparing apples to apples but its not. Specially if your running say a q6600 to their 2500k hell even if you have a 2500k to their 2500k there are to many other variables that can cause the differences between scores and fps. They may have optimized their windows with tweaks while you nay not have. They may be running tighter memory timings to your and so on Again way to many variables

vsync on? perhaps. that will limit Framerate and usage... also some games have issues with adaptive vsync. D3 for example turn on vsync without adaptive on solid 60 fps both gpu's sit on about 30% turn on adaptive and you're lucky to hit 57 fps and gpu's won't go above 30% at all.

I would say that It is as simple as the game isn't demanding any more so it is not supplying. have you tried playing something at a higher res with a bigger texture set?
