v8 performance

Hey guys,

I'm getting a fairly awful performance out of my cooler master v8 when overclocking.

I know it should do better than this!

Overclocked

Idle temp - 42

Load temp - 60+

Running on stock settings

Idle temp - 38

Load temp - 49

Its an 1100t processor overclocked to 4ghz with stock voltage, I've barely got the system stable at 4ghz without adding voltage but that will drive the temp up into the red.

The heatsink is a bit wobly to the touch but i put it down tight (i think this is just the fans and the heatpipes, not the mounting). Its on the supplied thermal paste with the heatsink as I couldnt find my artic silver (I think this could be a problem). I was generous with the thermal paste when installing (but not to generous). My results for this cooler just dont seem to fit the reviews or other peoples experience with it.

It has been suggested that i swap it out but i dont really have the money to be doing that at present.

Any suggestions as to why im getting these poor results?

Sugestions to fix it ...without swapping it out?

Im tempted to mount a couple of extra fans to it but vengeance ram doesent leave much room.

I dont think you can solve the problem or find what it really is without unmounting the cooler, checking why its wobbly, giving it a clean, and nice polish with isopropyl and then applying a new layer of thermal paste (there are guides on how to properly do this and how much to put).

I doubt that adding extra fans will do the job is there is a problem with thermal contact.

- Double check the fan speeds are set to 100% or high as possible in the bios.

- If you can see thermal paste coming out the sides of the sandwiching then you've used too much.

- What's your exhaust fan?

- What's your orientation?

- What's your Vcore in the OS? LLC may be overcompensating for the fact there is no specified Vcore appropriate for the frequency you've set.

- Did you tighten all screws till they couldn't tighten any further? Should be as tight as fort knox, not just causually hanging.

- Find your AS5 or order another tube, that'll make a big difference.

There was no thermal paste coming out the sides.

Exhaust fan is the haf x standard.

Orrientation is standard

Vcore = 1.392

Screws were tight tight when putting it on.

Looks like i'll have to take the whole board out and re do with artic.

'fraid so, but could also be worth upgrading the exhaust fan to 75cfm or higher.

Arctic is good but get some NT-H1 if you can - no break in period

Take a few pics of you remounting it and also where the wobble is. Also make sure the heat past is minimal like the size of one to 2.5 drops of water it will spread out and the thiner the better so long as it covers the woke contact area.

I used 'X' method for my paste and has worked great. Think I might have put a little extra at the crossover point though just for extra certainty it would cover everything. There was about half a milimetre coming out the side but so little I think I got it near on perfect - the excess was only on the top, the other three sides had no overspill

In the meantime try manually setting your Vcore to 0.01v less than what it is reading as in the OS. It probably won't, but there's a chance it'll lower temps slightly over using auto voltage (make sure LLC is enabled)

I built a high end core I7 870 2.8GHZ gaming rig for my mate about 7 months ago, I used the V8 instead of the rubbish stock cooler, the Core I7 running at 3.4 hits around 50ish with the fan on the slowest speed.
