utilising front audio connector

i want to connect the front audio connecter to my motherboard, but i was wandering i have to remove jumpers from where i connect if it do this can i still use the jack at the back toconnect my speakers to?

Are you wanting to use the mobo audio jacks at the rear for your speakers, and the front just for the microphone? If so then it's possible!!! What does the manual say about it, that would be my first port of call. In the event that you don't want to connect to the front audio header, certain pins(in my case 5,6,9 & 10) need to be jumpered to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports. Otherwise the line-out connector at the back will not function.

yeppers, however on some motherboards (probably your crappy one) there is just a jumber to route sound to the front. you dont get the choice of whether u want to route just the microphone or not.

to do it you will need your mobo manual for correct pins, u have it handy?

in my mobo manual it says: if you want to utalise the front audio connector, you must remove 5-6, 9-10 jumper. in order to utalise the front audio header, your chassis must have the audio connector ect. ect. ect.

also it says

pin No. definition

1 MIC

2 GND

3 REF

4 power

5 front audio

6 rear audio

7 reserved

8 no pin

9 front audio (L)

10 rear audio (L)

but on my case it only has

mic in, GND, GND, EAR left, EAR right

mic in goes to pin 1

gnd goes to pin 2

other gnd is unused

ear left goes to pin 9

ear right goes to ping 5 i believe.

ok and with that i should be able to use the back jack connected to my speakers as well?

no, most probably not, check the jumper settings. if they have seperate jumpers to switch audio and mic then yes, but if it is just to switch audio to front then no.

My front I/O connector only has line out and line in - no surround options at all. Mind you I ca still have it connectec as well as my main one! :)

Most boards won't let u use the rear audio connectors once u've switched them over to the front, which IMO sucks.

if were rantin and ravin bout mobo's mines a total PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!! IT WONT LET ME DO NETHIN, and my case is so crap it dont even have front audio ports!!!!!! not like my CRAPPY MOBO COULD SUPORT THEM ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
