using a mach 2 gt with an ihsless cpu

im looking to use a mach 2 gt with my athlon 4000. I have removed the ihs previously and so it sits lower than your average cpu. Will the mach still sit right or what changes can i make to make sure it has optimum contact with the core?

Thanks

you have to introduce a 2mm thick copper plate (same dimensions as the mach head) between the mach and the cpu to ensure you get good contact.

Then and only then will you see a benefit to removing the ihs ;)

Either that or mod your mounting kit by cutting off the little stand off legs on the bracket that sits on the top of the motherboard. That will make the bracket sit closer thus allowing the evap head to directly mount onto the core. Obviously you must be careful when mounting but you should see some nice results :)

Is this a make your own job? or can i use one of those copper cold plates for pelts? although i see they are 5mm thick.the ihs is about 3-4mm i think.

Thanks,

it a bit of a long shot, but do you think an athlon xp mouting kit would fit? after all they dont have ihs's. Any ideas?

They are a bit too thick to be honest and could do with being sanded downa wee bit to avoid crushing the core - but rockingdave's idea of sanding the feet down is a good one - remember that you might also have to dremel in some grooves to allow a flat installation (to accomodate some of the ic's that will be sat under the mountin area) and use just a single layer of seal string.

Also add 4-6 washers to each bolt (or cut 3-5mm off the bolt itself) to allow a better pull down of the mach head.

You can't use an xp kit in a skt 939 system without some serious mods far more than is needed with the proper 939 unit.

Dont despair though my friend = results are more than worth it :)

if i sand down the bits on the mounting kit does that mean it wont fit a normal cpu with ihs on?

No mate - it means you get even better contact (the springs in the head kit allow a certain level of flexibility) and even better temps because of it.

I was told, just a few more washers on the bolts and you can get a good contact with an ihs-less cpu?

no unfortunately it is not as easy as that. I thought it would be the case but instead you need to cut the small mounts on the bottom of the mounting kit as mentioned above. I didnt have the bottle to do this so bodged the ihs back on the cpu.
