Urgent replacement ....

Hello guys,
Today my HyperX Cloud headset decided to die(well, half of it) and I'm in need of a replacement. I'm kind of tired of all these "gaming" headsets and would like to get proper headphones for once. Thing is, I'm not planning to invest into a soundcard in the nearest future and as far as I understand it's kind of a must have device for most decent headphones, so I'm not sure what to go for and could really use some help. I don't really use speakers(in fact I don't even have any speakers right now) so headphones are being used for everything.

I use Sennheiser HD598's with onboard sound and they work fantastic and then you can always pick up a soundcard later

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Professional Studio Headphones for me i think they the best sounding headphones for sub $200 but no microphone.

it would help the guys give recommendations if you have a budget in mind.

My bad. I'd prefer not to go out of 150eur range or less if possible. I'm in the process of building new PC and this unfortunate accident throws me completely out of my budget :(

Beyerdynamic DT770, best closed back headphones for the budget. AKG K612PRO or Sennheiser HD 518 if you prefer open back headphones.

Seems to be a better option for me simply because it has leather ear pads instead of that nasty velour(or whatever it is) that I really dislike. How sturdy they are? I have a habit of listening to music in bed and it's not unusual thing for me to fall asleep with headphones on. ^^

There fine for me but i don't have the X version i have the older ones and they work fine for me but i don't wear them all the time. I couldn't answer about wearing them in bed and falling off to sleep.

Leather breathes better. I've only ever broken one pair of headphones and that was a set of Corsair Vengeance 1500s as I flexed them too far and the metal pin the earcups swivel on cracked the plastic shroud.

As long as they're solidly built you shouldn't have any problems apart from getting tangled up in the cable.

Ha! That's exactly what happened with my Corsair's headset. I think it was Vengeance 2100...

Yeah sounds like a design issue - I think they may have fixed it with the newer versions. They gave me RMA approval but I didn't bother as the postage cost was going to be astronomical.

Edit was actually the Vengeance 2000's now I've checked my order history! Man it's crazy to see how much you've spent online....

If you don't need a microphone, then the Dt770's would probably be the best price/performance you'd get for gaming. Since you don't plan on a soundcard, then 32ohm's would be the ideal version. Anything more would be very limited by the onboard audio controller. But keep in mind, there are very good sub $100(~88euro's) DAC/AMP combos that would be very good for driving headphones to higher volumes with no distortion. Since you use headphones exclusively, it's worth an investment.

However if you require a microphone, then the Hyper X(not the Cloud ones, and yes they are some of the best for the money) headsets or the Corsair's are pretty good. I know you just got rid of the Hyper X, but the only other alternative, is to get headphones and a small microphone that you can just clip on your shirt.

I do plan on getting a soundcard, it's just not going to happen at least until winter. DT770's don't have leather ear cups and that's a big minus.
After checking local stores and some additional researching I'm now thinking about getting ATH M40x. They seem to be pretty much identical to m50x while being a little bit cheaper. And leather ear cups. xD
The question is, how viable they are for gaming? Couldn't find much info on the matter unfortunately...

About microphone.... I have a standalone condenser mic(blue yeti) and while it has its own downsides(like picking up too much background sounds) it's much better than any of those bloody things from headsets.

With mine they sound fine for gaming, But there not really design for gaming more for Studio work.

...I literally came on the Forums today because the exact same thing has happened to me twice now, this time with the replacement unit they sent me. =.= It is starting to feel like Kingston is taking us for a loop as far as quality is going now. I am personally thinking of getting the Sennheiser h528 since they are down to about 120 USD in price. Though for me I prefer closed backs for better immersion and heavy base music.
