Upgrading radiator

about a quarter of a degree. if you are lucky :D get a thicker rad or a longer one, that upgrade is a waste of money.

Really? :o
I was under the impression that there would be a significant improvement because I bought my current rad when I was a complete noob and didn't know anything about water cooling. That brand isn't really trustworthy and the rad is aluminum.

Considering the AS240 rad you linked is a no name brand and all aluminum i would rather opt to go for the Swiftech one. Difference won't be drastic and will depend on how fast your fans are spinning.

Forgot to mention I will be upgrading my fans as well :)
I'm using a CM 690 II Advanced case so it's pretty limited in terms of space (but then again all mid towers are).
The fans will have to be in pull, on top of the radiator.

he already has the no name one. he just wants to upgrade. from a 240/35 to another 240/35.

i would reckon that the difference would be minimal, 3-4 degrees or so.

an upgrade to a thicker radiator would give a much better result but given the limited options for you case, this may be the best you can do.

Depending on your motherboard layout, you may be able to fit an alphacool XT45 in the top of your CM690-II.

This is with a gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P. My preference is for gentle typhoons too. (though the 1850rpm version needs to be run at 900-1100rpm to make it silent)

If you must have a thin rad try an Alphacool ST30 240mm there is a good comparison out there somewhere and it rates highly with low speed fans.I think it is Bundymania's review if I remember.

I agree with paulstung: Alphacool ST30 is the only real 30mm thick rad i know of. Most other skinny rads are in the 35mm range. The ST30 rad seems perfect for this job:)

Unfortunately I'm ordering the radiator along with a bunch of other products (graphics card, fans etc) from NCIX, and I can't find the Alphacool radiator on that site. I'd rather not buy different components from separate websites because that will make shipping more expensive.

So is it worth upgrading to the Swiftech rad? I heard that aluminum rads will cause problems over time so that's why I want to change to the Swiftech. I'm also hoping to get better temps. My load temps right now are pretty good (under 50C) but my idle temps are always in the mid to high 30s which doesn't seem very good to me. Since I have a good water block and pump, I'm thinking it's the radiator that's holding me back here.

Temps won't differ much. Temps will mainly be effected by fan speed and only a tad by all other components. It would be worth the upgrade(sell the other one?) because mixing metals starts for a corrosive growth problem in the loop. At least to my current knowledge. Correct me if i'm wrong though anyone.
