Upgrading / Modding Build

Lowers the cost significantly. Ebay can only take money from the sale price, not the delivery charge. So they'll probably get £1 out of me if they're lucky.

Seriously considering changing platform now as bulldozer kind of left me feeling gutted.

1090 is better than best FX

Wait for Ivy

As stated earlier here a few photos of my build minus the ssd due to it being faulty

Almost ready to boot

All systems go

Little light show

This is how cool it runs at 3.9ghz

What's your ambient and what chassis fans?

Ambient temp is 15.c.

Have two Bitfenix Spectre 120mm in the fron intakingt, A 230mm Corsair fan in the roof blowing down and a 140mm Thermaltake exhausting. Using IC Diamond thermal paste too. So far the highest core is 52.c

I am more than impressed at the moment.

Explains the slightly better temps to mine

Just noticed you have the same PSU as me.

Whats your temps and cooling solutions?

I don't have a PSU temp monitor?... if you mean the PSU I just use the stock fan and heatsinks.

If you mean the CPU then a D-14 with stock fans - Excaliburs wouldn't fit so I used them in the rear and roof (just centimetres from the heatsink anyway, they still add to the cooling performance). When I was at 4.2 @1.5v I got 66*c under the heaviest stages of Prime, but only 55*c in Crysis 2

A few more upgrades, seeing as i finally got my ssd back 100% yay.

Also decided to take a chance and buy a faulty 4890 to fix. Guess what!!!!

It is working, been stressing it and had no issues. So CrossFire here i come.

Next upgrade will be a better case as i need more space. So shall be selling my case on here or ebay within the next few weeks.

Could you do some benching and so we can see how 4xxx crossfire compares to 5xxx crossfire in scaling and stability etc?

Did some benching and the second card wasnt fully stable. Kept getting artefacts. So have now put the pair on ebay and am going to get myself the 6850 2gb edition with the money from the sale. Plus it has a dedicated hdmi port which i would like to use lol

Crossfire 6850s or 6950s would be good - or 6870x2

Sure it wasn't your PSU though?

My psu had no issues running GTX280's in sli or GTS450's in sli. I bought the second card from ebay and repaired but it is not 100% stable under extreme load. It works fine solo but in crossfire it buggers up. Going to get one 6850 for now and see about getting another one later. However i think a combined buffer rate of 4gb is ott on a 32" lcd tv lol

Indeed it is. 2x 1.5GB cards would be ideal but AMD have no such cards

Last upgrade on this machine before i start a new project. Have ordered a Ati 6870 1gb, found it for £100 so bought it instead of the xfx 6850 2gb. Going to see how it performs with one then maybe crossfire it when i get my new case.
