Upgrades - dare i go to the dark side?!

Hey all,

Im considering some upgrades to my new pc - eventually so that i have either a dual core/quad core DX10 capable system. Thing is i cant afford to do it all at once, so...

Would i be better off upgrading my current CPU to either a am2 (Cheaper, and not the "dark side" ;) ) or to get something like a E6600? (Along with motherboard and any ram id need!)

Or to leave all that as it is, and get say a 8800 and a more powerfull PSU?

Ive hit a dead end in trying to decide

Thanks

What do you have at the moment? i would say upgrade to an E6300 and overclock it but depends on your current rig

Current rig is:

AMD 64 4000+ (939)

A8N5X (mb!)

Geil 2GB dual channel

X1800XT 512Mb

X-Fi

etc

why do you need to upgrade? your pc is nice tbh so if u dont have the money just dont bother or just save it all up and then decide what you wanna do..

get a load of alcohol and a nice hooker.......

or that conroe rig?:p

I do have the money, just not enough to get both a new GPU and CPU - its one or the other.

"why do you need to upgrade?" - DX 10 and vista springs to mind (yes, i know my pc's fine for vista, but dual core is known to be the more suitable!)

get a cheap X2 to pass the time and save up to upgrade both at once

i dont see any dx 10 games atm and its not worth getting a dx10 card till the prices go down and there are actually some games to utilise it and you didnt say you wanted vista:p

he means 939 i think and i wouldnt even bother with an x2 myself but if your needing more performance/must have dc then buy it.

heh, i dont "want" vista, but ill need it if microsoft gets their way!

Think in the mean time then ill get a 939 - does anyone know if X2 4600+ is any good? i mean, there must be a reason as to why its the only one that is left in circulation!

have a look on ebay too, almost guranteed to find a sweet bargain there i reckon.

i picked up my retail 3500+ from ebay for a decent price,it was new though not 2nd hand.

cheers.

I vote for dual core 939 Opty, would save you a boatload of money in the longrun. Then just pick yourself up a nice 8800GTX and a new PSU to feed and voila, you have instant pwnage :)
