So I'm looking for an upgrade for my pc

The case i am using is an Fractal Design Core 1000, a fairly small case and i don't see my self going for a larger one unless i can get an R4 for a good shipping price

List of motherboards i have access to buy in my local area
MSI H77MA-G43
MSI Z77IA-E53 MiniITX
MSI B75MA-P45
Asus P8H77-M PRO
Gigabyte B75M-D3H
ASRocK H77M-ITX
ASRocK B75 Pro3-M

Gigabyte H77N-WIFI
Gigabyte Z77N-WiFi

Gigabyte H77M-D3H
Gigabyte B75N
Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3

CPU list
Intel Core i5 3570K
Intel Core i7 3770K

What is your choice of Motherboard and why?

If you have a similar build like i am looking for feel free to post a link :)

Thank you.

Haswell is upon us dude, go for that. If you are primarily a gamer I would recommend the i5 4670k with either a Gigabyte or an MSI Z87 board.

If you want to overclock, don't get a H77 board. Grab any one of the Z77 boards from Asus, Gigabyte or MSI. It depends on which features you want on the motherboard and your budget.

As for the processor, it depends on what you will be doing with the rig. Is the upgrade for gaming purposes or something else? If it's gaming, you'd be better off getting a new card.

P.S. Post your current rig specs please

Overclocking is not a big issue for me now, but i want to have the possibility later on

Main work load will be audio rendering using Studio One 2 and gaming; LoL, hitman, Diablo 3 and minecraft.

Very outdated Current rig:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
Gigabyte M61PME-S2
DDR2 800 2X2GB chips
GeForce 9600GT
Fortron Aurum 750W
Samsung SSD 830 128GB
WD Green 3TB

I'm assuming you'll also be getting a sound card later on?

I would just choose a Z77 board I like the look of and fits my budget. I don't know much about audio rendering, but I'm sure the extra threads of the 3770k will help.

I'm using an external audio interface, the Presonus Audiobox 22VSL

this is what i am looking at right now
Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3
Intel Core i5 3570K
Mushkin 2X4GB Blackline 1600MHz CL9 or 2X4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz LC9 low profile, will add another 8GB set later on

Sounds ok?

Out of that bunch, I like the Sniper best myself. A lot like the Asus Maximus V Gene. If those were my choices, thats the one Id get.

Yeah, that sounds fine to me. Personally I don't like the look of the sniper boards, but obviously that is subjective. Performance wise, they are really good :)

Are you sure?

Yes, I mean, sure the increase in performance isn't massive, but neither is the price increase. So the way I see it, when you are going from an old platform such as the one he is on, there is really no reason to upgrade to a generation old platform.

Considering my location, Haswell will come in at an insane price point as will the motherboards, the cheapest 3570K locally is sold at 285 US$/188GBP
and i don't expect the price to drop even when the Haswell is in stock :P

Are there no websites in Iceland?

I agree that if you have access to Haswell, it would be the best way to go. Yeah it wasnt a huge leap forward in performance but 10% is still 10% and moar is still moar. ;)

But OP has a point. If itll still be a while before Haswell lands on his shores and itll be a pretty penny for it when it does, there is absolutely no reason not to go with Ivy. Both the i5 and i7 will shred thru anything youd ever need them and last a plenty long time.
