Upgrade Worth it?

Hi all,

I was browsing the internet & I saw that a guy is doing upgrades on mach units. The upgrade includes

1. Chilly 1 head & captube

2. Desuperheater coil

3. Regas to R402a

This costs about £200. Is it worth it? I would like to hear your guys opinions.

Thanks

I`ll speak slightly out of turn here seeing as Phil is on holiday.

The person I think you are speaking of is not (AFAIK) a qualified HVAC, and we have been told that other qualified engineers (some of which have come back to EPUK) have had to repair a number of units that he has worked on- enough units to see a pattern emerging.

I think I have used this guy once for an upgrade and although the unit worked correctly and hit low temps. I was really disatisfied with the brazing, the sloppiness of his work, and the general appearance of the unit.

And yes I think it is the same person as he told me himself that he was not a qualified HVAC engineer.

I was once contacted by a customer of his who ordered a hand built unit and was kept waiting and waiting and was fobbed off with excuse after excuse and the scary thing was that the transaction was conducted outside of eBay so it made the situation that much worse for the customer. I provided the wronged guy with some info to help him gain some ground against the guy and haven't heard anything of the matter since.

BTW, when I mentioned Phil and www.ep-uk.com to him he seemed very unimpressed with the whole setup, going so far as to suggest his units and work were superior to Phils. Pah! Never in a million years!

Now Phill has unfortunatley ceased trading ( Hope your doing OK Phil ) can anyone point me in the right direction for getting this unit serviced / upgraded?

Thanks

Several months ago www.chilledpc.co.uk were doing mods to phase change units but even they have nothing to offer now! This is strange, where have all the HVAC engineers gone?

I do know of one but he is currently working through a backlog and won't be undertaking any more work until he has worked through it. I am awaiting instruction from him myself after deferring the work to my unit since April.
