Upgrade video card, or not?

Hey fellas, long time no postage!

Anyhow for now I am rocking an old 3ghz Dell Dimension with a 6600gt and 1.5gb of RAM. I just got sued for $15000 + interest so yeah I have no money for a gaming rig right now, in fact I had to sell my damn MacBook just to keep afloat.

I am looking at playing some CoD4 and was curious if a vid card upgrade would help me play the game despite not having a dual core proccy.... Would I be far overpowering my proccy going with a new vid card, or what level or card do you think would be best suited to my P4? I know the 6600GT is below the limits of the proccy so there's room for gfx improvement, I just don't know how far to go.

What's ur suggestion for some CoD4'age?

7900gs should do you good.

They can be picked up in the uk for ~£55 so roughly $100 (i assume) if you look around.

they are more powerful than the 8400/8500 and are roughly the same price.

More like < $50 on ebay and the like. Things cost far less here in the US

Anyways, I'm not really sure what CoD4 takes, but if you're patient you could get a 7900GS for ~$25 or a 7900GT for ~$40-50.

7900xx cards should be most competent at cod4, considering that the minimum required gpu is a 9800pro (ati one ) and so a 7900gt/gs should be able to run it at very respectable details and framerates.

Good to know the US is so cheap (*plots move*)

What I wanted to add was places like Fryz. I can`t remember a time I haven`t been there without walking out with something stupid cheap.

Time before last was a $11 or so pci 5 series gfxcard (no driver cd or something) - it maybe a pos card - but is priceless for some1 who messes about and fixes pcs.

The other day I came out with an $11 ide/sata->usb Kingwin adaptor. Guy with me bought 2x1g ddr2 ocz for laptop for $14 after rebate (package opened) - works great tho. Freaking 7/9 pound for 2g for a laptop, I could cry sometimes.
