Option 2

AMD Athlon II X3 455 3.3GHz you have a (imo) 70% chance that you can unlock the forth core and l3 cache to a locked multi 955. £59

Asus M5A78L-M LE Socket AM3+ £42.62

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory Kit £22.29

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 £16

Total £140

Cheap as chips.

what would my current componants be worth?

4GB DDR400 (4x1gb(2x samsung, 2x generic))

asus A8N SLI-Premium

amd athlon 64 4200+ 939

EDIT: and i wouldnt want any old motherboard either, i would want one with all the bells and whistles, the A8N SLI-Premium was asus's flagship motherboard at the time i got it...

I think if you were lucky you might get £80 in a private sale, maybe £40 on ebay.

Asus M5A99X EVO 990X £99 for you overkill

Asus M5A97 PRO 970 AM3 £79

ASUS Crosshair V Formula 990FX for you big overkill £169

sorry, ill clarify again, i seem to have skills for being vague...

right, im a bit lost with amd's latest lineup, from what i understand, in order of generation, it goes:

462/A

754 - didnt last long

939 - mainstream for a while, what i have

940

AM2

AM2+

AM3

AM3+

taking what i have written there, can you add in where these chips come in generation, and is it possible to have a mobo that will run what your sugesting for the moment, and will take bulldozer at a later point?

EDIT: ill be honest (and in being so, thank you for your patience, i know i must be an annoyance lol) none of those motherboards really look particually good, i am after features, not a load of crap i would never use, and not barebones basics either, somthing like a good audio processor onboard, and perhaps remote control from the front, and front usb port in the form of a 5.25" bay etc...

dont need any removeable bios, or features i dont even know what they are... lol

i went for my current mobo because of three reasons ...

1. most usb 2 ports of any mobo at the time

2. clean looking, no garish heatsinks

3. no OTT fancy features that i dont need, whilst still being the best at what it does.

Its realy no problem, I like giving advice.

All of the three board have every thing you need, and will take bulldozer.

Todays boards all come as standard with loads of features.

IMO asus are one of the best.

All them boards i have 8-12 usb ports and headers.

Go on ebuyer, select motherboards AMD - am3/am3+ boards, all will take bulldozer, but if you do upgarde to BD, i would recomend a board with a 120watt+ cpu socket.

Edit: if you want board that is not garnished, simple, then look for biostar boards on am3 platform.

Are DFI still in the market for AMD boards? they used to crap allover asus back in the day

and i remember gigabyte being this ridiculed little company that everyone laughed at due to their hilarious colour schemes and terrible performance...

what about MSI? still in the board making business, or foxconn?

IMO Today the top three are asus gigabyte and msi, I think most will agree.
