One thing to remember with X99 is that it also supports quad channel memory. So, make sure you get X4 DIMMS.

I still don't recommend any more than 16gb and a 4x4gb kit shouldn't cost the earth.

Also - Don't bother buying massive speed DDR4 for a 5820k because it's likely that you won't get the memory stable at any higher than 2133 (IIRC, it could be 2400). Your overclock will simply come from upping the multi and volts. Wasting time with the strap is just that, an epic waste of time, because the multi will soon find you your maximum stable overclock and doesn't take hours of messing around.

There is the review of the 5820k. Tom had nightmares getting faster ram to run.

Thankfully 5820ks now clock much higher than they did in initial reviews, thanks to better binning from Intel. Mine will do 4.6ghz for benching but since I added a second Fury X it was getting a bit hot so I just wound down to 4.4ghz for everything.

I also did not realise Asrock were using the OC socket either. Asus do and have bragged about it but it seems Asrock added it without any fanfare..

Probably not if I'm honest. I have a Killer E2100 PCIE card kicking about somewhere.. I also have one on my Alienware but I don't use it ATM because the Alienware came also with a pretty kick butt wireless card that makes my life easier.

One thing about the Killer NIC though dude is the software. It's absolutely epic and the firewall is a breeze to use. It really did make my life so much easier.

Overall? yeah you're probably better off with the Intel one but at least the board comes with some really nice extras that you don't get on MSI or Gigabyte in this price range.

2666MHz works completely fine with my (non-OC) 5820k.

Also, as for RAM and gaming, always get the best value. Don't limit yourself to 16GB, just make sure you can upgrade when the time comes, i.e. don't run 8x2GB sticks lol (if you can even get them). Games will start murdering RAM now 64bit is mainstream.

I'm using slightly more ram now I am running Fury X CrossfireX, but still nowhere near the limit. Witcher III as an example absolutely maxed with some of the settings on medium (not the texture menu the other one) eats 10gb absolute max.

You can always add 4x4 at a later date.

In games that do not support the extra cores nothing. The 6700 may actually be a few FPS faster (note, a few and nothing more).

However, get the b**tard threading? the 5820k will wipe the floor with it. We're talking 20%+ more power dude.

Your benchmark scores will also be massively improved by using a 5820k over a 4+4 CPU too.

Now of course, better benchmark scores are no reason to upgrade but the extra cores are IMO. DX12 is massively threaded as is Windows 8 and 10.

And of course the biggest improvement you will see will be in multi tasking. IE - just general use of your PC. This is one thing that is always overlooked when people are buying computers. There is only one proper multi tasking benchmark and it's found in Asus Realbench 2.4 but it demonstrates what happens when you load up a whole ton of real software.

If you like we can do some benchmarks with your 4790k compared to my 5820k? that would give you a more realistic example of what to expect?

The Skylake chip will add 5-10% over what you have now which is why I think it's an epic waste of money. The 5820k however will demolish both when threading.

With your GPU set up I think you would really benefit from the extra cores. Stuff like BF4 and Crysis 3 for example both use everything you can throw at them.

Whilst I was in bed last night tossing and turning I had a thought come to me maybe I should drop the M.2 SSD and up the CPU to a 5930K after all if I'm going to X99 why not do it half decent and I can get an M.2 later I still have an SSD anyway! and I will use the 32 2666 ram with it

Nice overclock on your 5930K, I can only get to 4.50GHz with 1.24v, Even with 1.35+ anything over 4.50GHz isn't stable.
