Hi i have notice a odd fault with my rig and have not been able to find the cause after taking all the components back the vender hads changed the CPU MOBO AND RAM now my problem still is there i have had to scrap any oc i was planing till i get it sorted.

My Problem is that after being shutdown for a few hours only 4gb of the ram will post i shut it down then clar the coms via the switch on the back of the board reboot and its all posts and will stay there as long as i leave my pc switched on and i can reboot no problems still 6gb its just if i leave it shutdown for a few hours and reboot it goes to 4gb.

Solutions i have tryed.

1. reseating the cpu and checked for bent pins none that i can see.

2. changing the order of the ram.

3. trying differnt tensions on the cpu cooler.

4. updated the bios and reflashed it.

5. took the kit back for testing and exchange any bits the reseler thought were faulty.

My Kit That has been changed by the retailer.

I organly had rigeback redline 3x2 but due to lack of stock was replaced with redline with the frostbyte heat spreader. (not Happy but oh well chaged due to retailer thinking it might be the kit)

Rampage 3 Gene on the latest bios 0805 (Second board retailer thought it was the board)

I7 950 (changed due the the reseller thinking it was the chip

MY KIT

CM 690 Advance

rampage 3 gene

i7 950

6gb mushkin redline

750 watt ocz power supply (fatal1ty one)

notua nhd 14 cooler

amd 6950 graphics

Any sugestions would be great as i now have tryed advice from mushking asus and the reseller and none have solved the problem.

Thanks in advance

Try this;

Type msconfig in the start menu, press enter to load it, choose the Boot tab and then click advanced options. In the top right there is a box which says Maximum Memory, check the box and change it to 6. This may sort out your prob but if not I have no idea what could be wrong.

EDIT:You will need to restart before the changes take affect.

i dont think its a windows problem as i was check the ram in the bios before win even started but thanks for the informationi will try it anyway.

No probs, I thought you meant in Windows, but give it a try anyway because it might show 4 in the BIOS but when you boot into windows you might get the 6.

spoke to the vendor again today and they say it is that the ram is not compatible with the board they think is this tru? if so dose the rampage 3 extream work better than the gene with this ram?

what operating system are you running, maybe the information below can help....

You might want to take a look or maybe hijack this thread http://forum.overclo...etected-as-4gb/

Sometimes its better to ask questions like this in the memory section of the forum as not everyone looks in the new build section as its mostly used for telling people not to go buying the 2600K for gaming rigs and that you can't use triple channel memory in P67 mobo's.

Not sure what speed memory your using but if vendor does think its the memory then it might be worth you trying to get some 1600MHz corsair dominator GT memory out of them as that's what TTL used when he did his review of the rampage 3 gene so that should at least rule out the memory if the problem persists.

I myself am somewhat of a n00b so I can't think of a logical argument why it would be the PSU but I have read that people get some weird fluctuations using the OCZ PSU's and have seen startup problems magically disappear when changing them. Might be worth googling and seeing what you can find.

Hope this helps.

Try changing setting in bios it might be that u need to change something to get it working properly with 6gb?Or you need to change timing or something silly like that. You could always try memtest, download it and put onto disk or usb, then take out all but 1 stick of ram and boot into memtestand check that piece of ram, if its all good try other sticks 1 at a time to see if they are faulty. If none are faulty then you can safely say its not the ram.

download memtest here - http://www.memtest.org/

well after sending every thing back the reseller thinks it might be that the asus bios dose not play well with the mushkin ram and want to change my ram as they have had issues themselves with asus boards. why did they not say this when i sent them back in januarry grrrr this has been doing my head in for this length of time but such is life i guess.

So i think that my options are:

1. upgrading the board from a rampage 3 gene to a rampage 3 extreme. Dose any one have muskin redline in a rampage 3 extreme? and have they had any problems with the board not posting all the ram?

2. change the ram for as sugested earlyer in the thread to dominator gt's

which is my best option guys?

thanks

Corsair doms 1600mhz and 2000 works fine with r3e and other mobos.

The 1600`s cas7 is good, and should be fine for oc`ing the cpu

And the price for 6gb,has droped lately as well

an update

I think i solved my memory problem fingers crossed. I removed the foam pad from the back of the io plate the board no fits much better and my memory problem dissapeared some 48 hours later so i can only assume that the pad was causing the board to distort a little and it has relaxed over the 48 hours lets hope it dose not come back
