Introduction

Ultrasone are a company which specialise in manufacturing professional headphones. They have many patented technologies which they have introduced exclusively to their headphones, these technologies include S-Logic, S-Logic Plus, Ultra-Low Emissions (ULE). You may be thinking "Emissions? They produce CO2? But they're headphones." I'll talk about this a bit later.

Ultrasone offer a range of quality headphones, these headphones are sold as HFI, DJ and PRO lines. The HFI range are the more affordable range, which offer great Hi-Fi quality headphones for the general user, however some of the higher end HFI line headphones could be used by musical enthusiasts. Then there's the DJ line for the DJ in you, tuned specifically for DJs. Finally, there is the PRO line, targeted for studio and enthusiast use (or for the person who has money but who doesn't want studio grade headphones beacause they want to boast that they have good headphones; like me).

In the Box

The box itself is fairly simple packaging, which has a nice large image of the cans on the front, which technical specs and features on the back. The contents were packaged in a large plastic bag.

The Pro 750's come with two 3m cables (gold plated), one straight, one coiled, a spare pair of ear pads, a 6.3mm to 3.5mm audio jack adaptor (gold plated), an Audio CD and a Manual. The Tech Specs and Features up close:

The headphones themselves were packaged inside the hard carry case which was included.

Design

The Pro 750's are a closed-back, over the ear design, with a white/grey and blue colour scheme. The colour scheme may not be to everyone's tastes, but if your making music, your not going to see them are you? All you really need is some comfortable headphones which produce exceptional sound.

Each ear cup has a smart looking aluminium plate which boasts the Ultrasone logo. This gives them a nice minimalist look, but also keeping them in the stylish, expensive range - and yes they were expensive; i paid £190 for them.

Note: This image makes the ear cup look like its black, but it is not, it is blue like the rest of the headphones (it's just down to my phone camera and poor lighting conditions).

An extra pair of Ear pads were provided, which is handy, in case you lose one (dont ask me how), or your Nan mistakes it for a biscuit and dunks it in her Tea or something. These ear pads can be changed very easily, all it requires is for you to twist the pad and it comes off.

Taking the pad off reveals the aforementioned technologies which Ultrasone use in their headphones. The first one you may notice is the offset 40mm Titanium coated driver - this is the S-Logic technology. Traditional headphones drive the sound directly into your ear, however the Ultrasones offset their driver so it uses the ear to create a "Natural 3D sound" effect. This Video explains it in more detail. Now, i wouldnt go as far as saying that S-Logic provides a definite surround sound feel, you dont get the front and rear sound effect like a proper surround sound system. However, i feel that they are correct in saying that it sounds like your listening to speakers metres away. When i was listening to a youtube video at low sound level on my headphones, i had to double check that the sound was coming from my headphones as i thought they were coming from the laptop speakers. Ultrasone also claim that the S-Logic technology provides a lower sound pressure level which lowers the risk of damage to the ear, also lowering listening fatigue. I must agree with them, as with my old Panasonic headphones i would find myself taking the headphones off because my inner ear will start to ache; with the Ultrasones, i can wear them for hours and my ears do not ache.

The other technology which they use is the entire metal plate which covers the driver (ULE). This uses MU Metal which reduces the magnetic field emissions which are created (this is the emissions that i was on about). It hasn't been scientifically proven that these emissions cause any damage to the ear, brain etc etc, but it has a good placebo affect that they are blocking 98% of these emissions compared to traditional headphones.

Comfort

These headphones prove to be very comfortable. I have listened to them for hours on end without my inner-ear aching (in aid of the S-Logic technology), outer-ear, head aching/hurting and getting too hot etc. Some may find that the headphones are a little too heavy (weighing in at 295g), but once you have them on your head for 5 mins, you get used to them and you hardly know you have them one. The only gripe i can think of is the positioning of where the cable attaches (screws) to the left can, i often find it rubbing on my shoulder, which can get annoying; i'm not sure if this is the way i am sat though.

Sound Quality

The sound quality is without a doubt superb. S-Logic does make the headphone sound different to traditional headphones as it pushes the sound around the out-ear first; this may need some getting used to. The 40mm Titanium coated drivers are the tightest drivers that Ultrasone offer, which they claim to reproduce sound exactly as it was meant to be heard.

The 750's offer a crisp high end, a solid, textured low end, and the mid end is well balanced too. I often find with headphones that as soon as there is a bit of heavy bass, the highs/mids are drowned out as the drivers are unable to cope with the diverse frequencies. However, the Ultrasones cope very well in these situations, when heavy bass kicks in the highs and mids seem unaffected; it's almost as if they have separate drivers for the bass, mids and highs.

Conclusion

If there's a shop near you which sell them, i'd definitely advise you to have a listen to see what you think. These headphones arent cheap, but they have good built quality, not too bad to look at, and superb sound quality.

I would certainely be interested in these headphones, great review btw :)

The price is the biggest con for me I guess... 190£ is freakin much :( ;)

I am on the other hand very interested in this S-logic technology, just want to know how it sounds...

Currently I'm using Sharkoon X-Tatic Analog 5.1, and im really happy with it for the price that I paid :D (65 euros)

Btw, what are these? 5.1/7.1 surround?

Greetings, and 4stars :)

They aren't 5.1 nor 7.1 surround sound headphones. The S-Logic is to do with the off set drivers which push the surround sound into the out-ear before the sound travels into the inner-ear. Like i said in my review, you would really need to hear the cans. But they do sound different from conventional headphones, and the S-Logic Technology does give a better soundstage compared to traditional headphones.
