Ultra Unveils Plans for 2000 Watt PSU

Bigger is always better right? It seems that way when it comes to the computer industry and today's annoucement of the upcoming Ultra 2000W power supply should be no suprise to those that follow the computer hardware. The Ultra X3 Modular 2000W PSU has a footprint that is similar to the PC Power & Cooling 1000W power supply. This means this PSU comes in at 10.25 inches long and doubles the power rating all while keeping the same form factor!

U must remember it's an Ultra... So that means it's rated for 2000w and pushes about 500 in reality haha

2000 is completely rediculous, we just can`t keep adding to the power use.

as soon as gfx makers go the way of cpu makers and realise that higher clock speeds isnt the way forward, there will be no need for anything over 800 watts.

Ultra to release 2000W monster

Their 2000W desktop standard ATX psu will be displayed at CES.

"With the +12V rail being rated at 1800W that means it can handle an amazing 150A load!To put this into perspective, NVIDIA's power hungry 8800GTX DirectX 10 compliant graphics cards uses ~30A. If one was to run a pair of 8800GTX graphics cards in SLI it would double to roughly 60A, which leaves another 90A available to use up on the Ultra X3 Modular 2000W PSU."

I`ve never had an explosion off a psu, just a sqwiff of black smoke, smell of burning-ish plasticy/componets and a `phutt`.

Be an interesting mov to watch.

But CPU's are now trying to make them use less power, thats not the case with gpu's

When i worked in repairs, i plugged the power into the psu, turned the psu on and then........ BANG!

the plastic fan inside shattered, came through the holes in the back, hit the wall, reflected, then stuck into my chest. was bleeding pretty bad.
