I Have some old games that i bought before i started to use steam that i want to transfer over so i can save on buying them again, i have checked that steam have the games but when i enter the registration keys that came in the box i doesn't recognise them (this worked with half life and opposing force Etc). Some of the games dont Have registration keys at all. Have any of you ever tried contacting the publishers for Cd keys? Did you have any luck?

Thanks

I don't think you can do it on Steam, I know you can do it with Origin though I had to get my copy of the original Crysis added to my account. But you have to contact them and get them to add the game to your account, the key that you get if you buy the disk is a retail key which is different to a digital download key so they have to change it over.

For the games without keys you wouldn't be able to anything about it but all games should have keys, they have done since the floppy disk days.

Contact Steam? Or the Developers? The game without a key is vice city But Maybe I've Lost It

I Don't remember it having one though.

You need to contact Steam and tell them you have a retail key you want to add to your Steam account, you should definitely have had a key with Vice City though. Without the key you can't prove to them that it's a legit copy, for all they know you could be trying to blag them.

I don't think Steam do it though, it's easier with EA Origin because EA has a record of all game keys and can look them up but with Steam unless it's a Steam game when you bought it they don't have a record of the key.

Your copy of Vice City may not have come with a key, my copy of San Andreas didn't come with one and doesn't need one to install and play the game.

I Have Messaged Steam, they don't have a miscellaneous question category so you have to lie about what your question is about -.-
