Torn between panel types!

I've been using my trusty old Samsung T240 for a few years now and over the summer I plan to replace it with a new screen. However I'm unsure as to what panel type to go for and I'm hoping you can help. I use this PC for web browsing, gaming (mainly FPS but I will be getting Diablo 3 next week), some Photoshop, some MS Office and that's pretty much it.

My heart is saying a glossy 27" IPS panel such as a Hazro, possibly even the Dell for the bigger resolution and vibrant image quality. Then my head says a 24" 120hz TN panel like the BenQ 2420T as I predominantly play FPS games but what about the rest of the time when I'm not playing an FPS game?!?!

Anyone else been through this predicament and got any advice?

Mate I'm in a very similar boat to you. I currently have a Samsung T260, which is essentially the same monitor as you and am torn between getting 3x Benq 2410T's or a Dell u2711. I'm leaning more towards the Benq's because like you, I play a lot of FPS games and the 120Hz refresh rate appeals to me.

So I recommend going for the Benq 2420T.

I don't have any real world experience only seen them at demos but if I were I'd go for the 120hz as it would be easier to max out games since you're not at some crazy resolution and you get the overall smoothness of 120hz that I could feel/see just from the short time I've used at a demo. How ever I guess you could argue photoshop, how much do you use it? and is it a job at all since an IPS display will be beneficial in photoshop due to the better color reproduction.

benQ is betterquality than ultrasharp

Where did you get that from?

Anyway I have the U2410 and the difference between that and my old TN panel monitor in terms of image quality, brightness, colour depth (deeper blacks, brighter whites) and viewing angles is immense. Although my old TN panel won't be as good as the BenQ monitor you have mentioned, but an IPS panel monitor would still be better. If you are worried about an IPS monitors gaming performance, there is nothing to fear as I play BF3 A LOT and I have never experienced any ghosting or any input lag.

Thanks. That's put my mind at rest somewhat.

As much as I hear good things about the BenQ I really want to move on from a 24" screen to something larger hence my heart telling me to go for a 27" IPS.

I would very much be behind you making that decision. A lot of people game on IPS monitors and they are perfectly fine for the job.

From what i've heard the preset settings that the BenQ monitors use are absolutely awful. You pretty much have to change every setting to get it all looking good.

Yeah as long as the response time is 8ms at the very most it should be perfectly fine for gaming imo, but most ips screens are fine

Dell ultrasharps are brilliant. I have two samsungs, an HP 2408h, and an ultrasharp U2410. The first three are all good TN panels, but seriously the Dell blows them out of the water. I've been gaming on it and not noticed any ghosting or lag.
