Top Radiator Recommendations for Define R4

Greetings!

I'm considering adding a 240mm radiator to my system, which you can see here. The reason is that I'm hitting 60 (CPU) and 66 (GPU) degrees Celsius max when playing demanding games (like the latest AAA titles). Not that it's a problem really, however I'm just not satisfied with those temps.

Now my chassis is the Fractal Define R4 and there isn't a lot of space in the top, but that is really my only place left to put a rad. I'm seeing many different builds with top rads, all ranging from 30mm, 35mm, to 38mm thick rads being placed in the top, adding 25mm to the fans.

Can anyone tell me with certainty which 240mm rad would fit there, without hitting the RAM modules and top heat sink on the motherboard?

30 mm thick with a set of fans seems to be the very limit.

Found a picture online with possibly the best scenario for rads.

(ignore the fact that he got all fans on exhaust, but anyway random picture online)

But even there it is really tight and i dont know if you have any mechanical drives, which if you do makes the front rad impossible and you cant cool a gpu and cpu on a 30 mm 240 rad.

To be honest mate, your temps are perfectly fine, as long as they stay under 80 degrees you really have nothing to worry about.

Pretty sure theres a damn good review on it..........

Hehe are you hinting at your own review of the R4? I must have seen that video a few times, but alas my memory fails me regarding the radiator restrictions if you mentioned it :)

Will take a look at it again, unless you're referring to another video. Thanks for the help guys!

As someone who owns an R4. It'll be a pain to get any rad/fan up there. Never seen anything more than a 30mm thick rad and 25mm of fans. I doubt you saw any thicker rads than that. There is simply no room. You would need to make sure the VRM heatsink at the top of the board is not hanging over the top of the PCB and make sure you install the rad/fans then route the 8pin cpu cable, then the motherboard. Easiest way to do it i would imagine. Also make sure your barbs are on the front side of the case. Probably would be to tight to get barbs and hose out from the corner unless you use a multi channel rad and have one on each side.
