Whats the best Anti-Virus software (Free Edition's) to use at the moment and what would protect me the most for nasty viruses?
Also whats the difference between Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware and should I use two separate software for each and if so which ones.
My current options are either AVG 2015 Free Edition or Bit-defender 2015 Free Edition. Please keep the software mainstream like Avg, Avast etc... not smaller companies because I rather not risk the hassle.
Thank you for your contribution.

For the past few years I've been using Microsoft Security essentials, it's pretty good.

Avast gets my vote. I use enterprise grade stuff on my non gaming rig but for gaming and general usage, Avast does the job admirably.

I don't use free AV so I can't comment but Malwarebytes is great for malware/spyware.

It's really not..

I've never had any problems with it, but could you please inform me on what you don't like about it.

I used to be an AVG man, but i got really annoyed when it kept telling me chrome was using too much ram.

I have AVG on my main rig just because it's super cheap and not too invasive although I am always selective with what parts of it I install. I have some extra copies free for my laptop too but I rarely do anything with that so i've not bothered, haven't even changed to W8.1 yet. Everything runs fine but I always keep my activities legit. ;)

I've been using Avast for about a year or so now, and works great. I was a MS Security essentials user before that, but,I kept getting false positives so had to change.

oh well I'm not using any 3rd party programm for such stuff... and I had never probs...well probably because my browsing is boring a.f.

There's one major problem, it couldn't find/protect a PC from virus that were detected by another AV.

People assume that because an AV doesn't find anything that it's a good AV. They often don't consider that the AV is not good enough to find an issue that does exist.

Real-time protection is important IMO and that's why I prefer Kaspersky.

There was some stories recently about it not being able to detect a lot of threats.

Hmm, ok. I'll need to do my own research into this now. I'll probably change my choice in AV now. Cheers guys for the info.

I do use an AV, Kaspersky. Real-time protection is key.

Sorry fella misread your first post, you don't use "Free AV" I agree with you still they are garbage, real time is where it's at. I used to have a subscription to C.O.M.O.D.O then Avast but even so they don't keep their databases up to date as fast as they claim to and infections still occur, now I just don't bother an keep an eye on my own system behaviour and know which files should and should not be running also memory resident stuff is pretty easy to spot. ;)

So is malware bytes a real time protection?

I've been happily using Avast on all of my devices for a couple of years or so, I've had no complaints.
