To all Idnet email users: Email outage

As many of you will know, the mail server (Trevor) has been hit by a

massive spam attack and all idnet.com addresses are currently out of action.

IDNet are working to get the server back online, but there may be an issue with the filing system.

There is no ETA for a fix at present (14:40 - 3/7/08) We will update this announcement when more news becomes available. Alternatively, phone IDNet on 0800 0267237.

Unfortunately, all webspace, blog space etc is hosted on the same server,

so these services are also affected.

Please note that the mail failure stops the 'report this post' function working,

so if you need to report a post, please PM all staff members, and the

first one 'on scene' will deal with it.

From idnetters

Knowing idnet it will be fixed soon, but surely they should have countermeasures etc. for this - either way there will be an investiagation

Just messaged Simon to see if they need a hand. OC3D has two powerful mail servers on hand to act as temporary storage if needed.

update:

As most of you will know, the mail server (Trevor) has been hit by a

massive spam attack and all idnet.com addresses are currently out of action.

As the server still has not re-booted after 44 hours of integrity checking, IDNet are moving

to a new mail server, and hope to have service restored in the next few hours.

At this point, there will be some data loss - what will be on the new server will be the last backup

before the failure. IDNet will be recovering data from the old server as soon as possible.

another update

Accounts are being restored as I type, and you may note your email client will start asking

you for your password. Just cancel, this is because the server is not yet 'open'.

Unfortunately, the first server used, Clunker, can no longer cope, and a new server is being set up as I type.

Simon & Tim send their apologies to all affected customers, they will be in the forum to discuss what went

wrong and what they plan to do to ensure it doesn't happen again, but their first priority is to restore service as I am sure you understand.

At this point, there will be some data loss - what will be on the new server will be the last backup

before the failure. IDNet will be recovering data from the old server as soon as possible.

As a personal favour, I would ask every member that uses

email notification of new posts, PMs etc, from the forum

to turn off the option until the problems are resolved as we

are merely adding hundreds of emails to the queues. Thanks.
