Titan Questions

That was a strong grammatically sound par.

You want a Titan X don't you?

JR

Don't get the first sentence, so not gonna respond to it :p

Umm, both yes and no... with no overweighting yes alot. Yes due to it's matt black and no cause it's freaking expensive, that as you said, it won't justify it at all.

Even an Titan Z is cheaper than the Titan X.

Everyone is welcome, despite if you're an multi Titan X owner ;)

Multi GPU is the way to go if you use the Titan X, they are designed to work in packs.

Using a single Titan X means you will not get value for money as most of the time the VRAM will be doing nothing.:)

Have you got 4 8GB 290X's yet Kaap?

JR

No mine are 4gb ones, I got them on day one when they launched.

They are also Asus reference which means I got to use GPU Tweak on day one and could put up to 1.412v through the cards on launch day which was nice.

I know someone who has 8gb 290Xs quadfired but he prefers the 4gb ones as he likes to do some benching.

Isnt being the fastest single card available not a good enough reason to have a single titan x?
I mean, for someone who hates sli or crossfire and doesnt want to deal with all kinds of driver issues, I mean, I had crossfire radeon 5870 at the time Skyrim released and the game kept crashing with crossfire enabled. I played 200 hours of that game at medium settings because I was only able to play with one card. I certainly never ever want to be in that situation again and have one of my cards sitting idle even if I have to pay a boat load of money that I made by doing absolute slave labour.
A gtx 970 sli might seem like its economically the better thnig to do until another skyrim like game comes along that refuses to work with multiple cards and youre stuck with trying to run a game which uses 8 gb vram with a single gtx 970 and have to play at medium settings despite having spent 750 euros on both the cards.
Lastly, once again, isnt a single card always always always the better advice?

I would actually buy a Titan X to upgrade from my 780 reference - but it had to be with a water block as my whole rig is under water.

Wife says No No though....... -.-

Wait a month or two for the cut down version of the Titan X with 6gb of VRAM and save yourself about £300 if you want to go down the single card route.

I do wish that this cut down Titan x or 980ti was 8 gb instead of 6

Unfortunately with it's 384bit bus you can have 6gb or 12gb, I think other memory sizes are possible but if NVidia went for say 8gb it would make what they did with the 970 look quite reasonable.:D

I have seen a couple of games use 8gb on the Titan Xs but for a single card it would be pointless to run unless you can put up with 15fps to 20fps.:)

1.4! Phwoar my cheapy powercolor card would haul ass with that much voltage, already does 1210/6500. Incidentally are they all locked to 6500? I must admit I really do fancy a healthy bank of 290X's even this late into the party. If there was an 8GB lightning that would tickle me enough to try really hard to get them I think.

...295X2, yeah probably a legit reason considering how cheap it is. Sorry couldn't resist when you said single card.

Nope. You've only really used one old game as an example as to why you shouldn't get two cards. Its alot better now.
I mean considering how the Titan is always overtaken by whatever Nvidia can churn out 6 months later not to mention that a pair of slightly aged, highly clocked AMD cards will wip it to shreds it still makes no sense.

If I was to get Titans, I'd get atleast two. Excluding the Z.

Where I live, I can get the Z cheaper than the X. What is the difference between the 2?...

The Titan Z was a total joke for gaming.

It was basically two Titan Black GPUs on the same PCB. Because of this and the use of air cooling it ran hot meaning NVidia had to redesign the cooler to a triple slot job and reduce the clocks.

What made it even more laughable was the launch price of around £2350 in the UK which was far more than AMDs 295X2 and even more comical was the fact that AMDs card was the faster too.

The only serious use for the Titan Z is as a cheap compute card where DP is needed.

Sorry, but I just have to say this:

We are proud to announce the nVidia GTX 980ti with a massive 8GB vram on a 384-bit bus! We invented a way to fit the extra 2GB on.6GB+2GB of slooow as ****

Honestly only read the posts up till the one quoted. Complete joke that apology was

 IMO the bus should have been 512bit not 384bit & it should have been a straight 8GB not this BS of 6GB+2GB.

Yeah funny the funny thing is AMD ca do a straight 8GB card but nVidia can't
