Titan Black Edition and GTX 790 incoming? A closer look at the rumors.

i wouldn't say its greed, its more like what i say when i was building cars for people, 'forever chasing numbers'

having 300bhp(780) as a daily driver is more than adequate, its economical, comfortable to live with and fast enough to have some fun with when you feel bored.

400bhp(780Ti) this is where in the pub people shout numbers, I have 400hp, but the skimpy 15" wheels(screen resolution) don't get the power down properly, and its quite thirsty and uneconomical, im also afraid to give it full beans because if anything breaks its expensive to replace!

500bhp(Titan Black/Ultra Etc) this was stupidly expensive to build, and you cant fully see what its capable of because there isnt anything which allows you to no holds bar give it some shit (excuse my French), then in order to see what it can do, you end up paying for serious track days (more screens, psu, cpu etc) and you've just fully entered the world of a bottomless pit because from there 600hp is the next step (maxwell or what ever is next on the cards)

that's the best way i can describe it, and im actually victim to this, i have had my fair share of cars, turbo's, super chargers, ive driven alot of cars people only see in a car park, and the owners always say the same thing, i want xxx amount of hp, then you explain that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages 10 fold, and they respond with well i want it because i can, not because i need.

nvidia just keep releasing stuff, because they know consumers will buy because want it not because they need it. Forever chasing them FPS!

Then you get those lovely people that put 500bhp in an XR2!!! I suppose that's like putting a Titan Black in a net book!!!!!!

Got to love those guys!!!

Why are we talking about Brake horsepower? Shouldn't it just be HP?:p

Nonetheless nice analogy:)

BHP, measured at the crank on a dyno, pretty sure thats right :) so BHP is that context is the maximum power the GPU can put out. HP would be the FPS you see on screen, there's loses in power(bhp) due to quality settings etc etc, i think i explained it right

Cheers dude

+1 Good way to explain it.

I think the worst thing for me is being on several enthusiast forums like OC3d you see a lot of guys who are older than you, work full time either in the Industry (therefore need the best) or have computer hardware as their main hobby therefore devote so much resources to constantly building such quality computers it sort of fuels people like me to always want to upgrade to that next best thing to be in that "enthusiasts" club.

Lol many of us don't actually buy hardware constantly. We just buy the best we can afford and make small incremental upgrades over the years. Now some people are like that but most of us are not.

In reality its not all about the hardware you have, more of are you happy with its performance right now? If you are then no need to upgrade.^_^

Just looking at these Pics makes me feel unhappy with my 680´s. When does S*** hits the Fan?? Maxwell SLI or some of these babes?? Not that i need it for Computing or some Stuff but the "Upgrade Bug" is getting bigger then ever =)

maxwells successor. STACKED vRAM. but my 670ftws in sli pretty much own anything i throw at them so they are safe for another 18 months or so

Maxwell can go by me and I wont bat an eye lid, As I said in an earlier post, Maxwell is just the taster for Volta, The true beast ^_^

I reckon I'll be happy with my 780 for a long time. AMD officially have no new GPUs coming this year, and there are rumors that we might see Maxwell from Nvidia, but I'd say we're certainly not going to see a true flagship card from them this year anyway.

With your upgrade history as of late I'm sure there's plenty around you who'd bet against you with that one. I can see you rocking GTX 880's in SLI as soon as you can buy them. :p

No way, I've learned my lesson with the 780 Ti, Never again am I buying a gimped card i.e 780, I'll wait for the top of that gen before buying like the 780 Ti with it's full GK110 core.

Funnily enough it seems nobody ever uses the 1XXX series as a branding.

When Nvidia switched over from the 9000 series, their flagship was the GTX 280 not 180, same with the R9 290X.
