Timings Dont Seem Right

Right ive been looking to do some overclocking on my cpu and know i have to set my memory in the bios so it doesnt fluctuate when i start tweaking voltages on the cpu.

My problem is this Ive been told to set the memory frequency to 1600mhz to allow a bit of leeway, yet in my bios its already set at 1600mhz and also looking at my memory the timings should be 9,9,9,24 Corsair Vengeance Black LP DDR3 12800mhz. Yet the timings are set 11,11,11,30 for some reason and this has thrown me on where to begin and where i should set these timings at in bios so the bios doesnt up them itself.

I've tried looking for my memory at Corsair and its not there for some strange reason. Here is the product code CM3B4G2C1600L9 so if anyone can advise me on why my timings are different thanks

Hi Mikey, welcome to the forums (if I haven't said it already).

Your post was a little 'wall-o-text' so I've just edited it to make it a little easier to read. I (for one) find it difficult to decypher said wall-o-text posts and tend not to bother replying.

Hopefully, I've done you a favour. In future could you add a little structure and split your posts up a little, the paragraph key is your friend! :)

Cheers and good luck with your issue.

Which motherboard do you have?

There should be some sort of "AI Tweaker" option in your advanced BIOS settings where you can manually enter the RAM timings.

Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3 Yassarikhan.
It does have something in bios but want to overclock from scratch for the 1st ever time after watching Toms guide ands with the mhz already at 1600mhz and the timings at a different setting its thrown me with being new to this and all.

So do you think if i manually set the timing to its original would it then be safe to adjust the timing after Overclock to what its set at now

I should have asked this earlier, but can you list your full system specs?

If you're on socket 1155 you can set the RAM timings before or after you overclock.

Edit your original post and just list them. I think you need to fulfill certain requirements before you can add them as a signature.

EDIT: Sorry, you should be able to add your specs to your signature. Click on the "user cp" option on the horizontal bar near the top of the page and you should see an option to edit your signature.

yes, and please keep them nice and tidy :) not 100 lines ;) (or else we'll meet again hehe)

has this done it hope so

OK Yassarikhan.
I can get to advanced settings and do that i also notice you have the black vengeance lp.
So if my frequency setting is already at 1600mhz should i just leave it at that and just concentrate on putting my mem timings right as once thats done i think im ready for the next step in TinyToms guide.

That is fine dude, don't worry.

I'm not familiar with the Gigabyte UEFI BIOS, but you should be able to find an option to change the RAM timings in an "advanced settings" area.

P.S. Try to EDIT your original post instead of double posting in quick succession :)

Edited but didnt show up as new reply sorry mate will get the hang of forums eventually .

The RAM will work fine with the current timings, but it's best to set them correctly for optimum performance. Once you have the correct timings you can overclock without worry. Although, you could test the RAM beforehand with MemTest x86 to ensure there are no problems. You don't have to though, it's entirely up to you.

cheers thanks for your help so far greatly appreciated, will do memtest 1st as you suggest if i need more help will speak again soon tyvm dude
