Time for a change

Hi All

I think my Pc is beyond overclocking.

Its a 1.2Ghz Pc with 512Mb of Ram.

I've thinking of upgrading it or turning this into a webserver and buying a new PC.

Anyone know if there are any good deals about?

I use my Pc a lot so its on almost 24/7

I do a lot of Web Development and Software programming.

I also do a lot of image manipulation which takes ages on my PC.

As for video editing and converting well lets not get started on that.

OK so i use my Pc for a lot of things so i'm thinking of something like

AMD 3Ghz

1GB Ram (Probably 2 if i can afford it)

DVD-RW x2 - (may as well have 2 instead of 1 being a DVD Rom drive)

200-300GB Hard Disk (Low Access times) probably SATA

Any case as i'm not that bothered with it. (So long as it has front mounted USB)

I would like a Digital Tv card in it but thats not essential.

Err anything else?

Anyone know of any really good offers that may intrease me or some good deals on parts to upgrade my current PC?

Cheers

i would sugest:

Processor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_cpus.html (6;th up from bottom)

Motherbord: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939.html (4'th down)

RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Enhanced_Bandwidth_Series.html (bottom)

Graphics Card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/X800PCI_Series.html (3'rd from bottom)

Hard Drive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/hitachi_sata.html ( any of these)

CPU Cooler: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Thermalright_120.html (second down) + http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Fans_47.html ( any 120 mil fan)

PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Tagan.html (any of these, aslong as the wattage is above 400)

then the case is up to you...this is just a system, if you want it specified for anythin then say so, also u didnt specify a buget ;)

Hi mate :)

Right well for encoding and dev and heavy apps your best off with a dual core - but on a budget thats not so practicle so maybe an Opteron 144 or 146 and clock it a little higher to get a bit of extra speed :)

For your work 2gb of RAM would be good and both GEIL and GSkillz are pretty good VFM at the mo so try to pick some of that shiznit up :)

Mobo: DFI Ultra-D or EpoX NF4 Ultra - great budget board :)

HDD: Pretty much any will do you but I like: Samsung Spinpoint/Hitachi Deskstars or Western Digital :)

Try taking a peek at SCAN - today only as they do immense deals :)

www.scan.co.uk

I don't know why you want 2 x DVD-RW as one will do the trick nicely and you don't mention much music editing in there - but meh most of 'em will do the trick - SCAN today only is where I blagged mine from for £27 :)

Case - can't get better than the XClio case from SCAN - £25ish and a great fully featured case which I've had no problems with and looks great (brothers build)

Might need a GFX card - try an nvidia 6200 - I happen to have one I can let ya have for say £25 inc pnp - seriously they're decent cards and will play most games at lower settings if you feel so inclined :)

Ummm - thats qabout it from me mefinks :)

EDIT: and a decent PSU like a Tagan (450w+) or something should tide ya over :)

EDIT II: VERY nice price on a 2gb GSkill kit : click me or click me too!

Cheers for that.

Well budget hmm... i'm not looking to spend a lot hopefully about £400 MAX idealy £350

Processor AMD Athlon 64 3200+ £97

DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard £99.99

OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3200 £140

Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO Ultimate £125

Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 160GB SATA-II £50

So thats £512 with out a case ,PSU and Fan.

Dam gonna need more money or need to find a better deal.

Try this:

Venice 3200+/Opty 144: £97

EpoX Ultra-D: £82

2gb GSkill: £158

The x800GTO is overkill if you don't play games mate - try a lower vid card like a 6200 or something :)

The deskstar is excellent :)

VERY cheap x800xt: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_99875.html

SCAN Today only:

http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/

Cheap ass opty 144 on there^ + cheap ass maxtor^ + cheap ass DVD-RW :)

Nice cheap case (decent quality too - my bro has one i installed for him :)

No SCAN are excellent - never had a problem with them at all. The only gripe I've heard is that they use City Link - but I've never had a problem with them either. I use SCAN for almost all of my online purchases as they have a free carriage offer with Hexus.net forums :)
